1-09-15 Application sent off
1-14-15 Check cashed 2-27-15 Call form IOI and short phone interview. She was very friendly and even cracked a few jokes about me living in the middle of nowhere. 3-3-15 Interview scheduled and I will post updates with anything outside the norm. |

1/22/15 - Application mailed
1/29/15 - Check cashed 2/26/15 - IOI Interview She told me I should have it in the mail within 2 weeks, she was tied up and couldn't submit the report until the beginning of next week. I'll edit this once it comes in the mail. My IOI interview was very friendly and she was a able to answer any questions I had. |

Interview was a breeze and very informative.
-she never set foot in my shop area "I can see it has a locking door and that's all we need" the meeting was conducted in my office -her main concern seemed to be making sure i understood 4473 and difference between 07 and 01 FFL -any question she answered she made sure to show me the actual letter of the law in the BATFE handbook (not her opinion) If I can think of anything else I will post it later. |

Sounds exactly like my experience. Did she give you an estimate of how long until you had your actual license in hand? Im hoping mine should be here by the end of next week.. so I booked a trip to Vegas to help kill the time ;) Im actually in the air as we speak!

Good to hear!!!!
How long should an IOI be sitting on a application until they do something in a area where they are slow? I was told my IOI had my stuff about a month ago but have not been contacted,, |

I will tell you that I was proactive and contacted my IOI with a zoning question about a week after my application went to our local ATF office. It took her about 5 days to return my call, when she did, she apologized that it took her long to call me back, she answered my question and said hey while I have you on the phone, lets schedule your interview. Sounded great to me! She scheduled it the next week. Overall.. my process was very prompt. |

All you need to check your license on EZCheck is the 1st 3 and last 5 digits of your number. When I called the main FFL office about my status (even before I ever spoke with my IOI) the lady was able to give me the 1st 3 and las 5 digits of my "pending license number". She said they use those digits to track the process of your application.

Quoted: what should i expect during the interview? will she tour the premesis? View Quote -She wanted to see all the required documentation (zoning, state tax permit, etc.) -She or he will go over all the paperwork you are required to do (4473, multiple pistol sales, etc.) -I found it to be more of an education meeting than an interview. I am a home based FFL but will operate out of my former fabrication shop that shares the same address. My meeting took place in my home (not the shop) and we never left the kitchen table, all they care is that you have a way to secure the weapons. I asked if she wanted to see the shop and she responded with "it has a door that is all I care about". |

...... all they care is that you have a way to secure the weapons.... View Quote There is no requirement to "secure the weapons", have a safe, alarm system or even a lock the front door. Heck, I can name a dozen FFL's within a thirty minute drive who never lock their front doors. |

I know it is not the ATF handbook but ATF publication 3317.2 page 8 states the following... Evaluate your door and window locks. Can any door or window be opened from the outside without keys? Do any former or non-employees have access to keys? Are keys stored or kept near the container or door for which they are used? Have any of your business keys been lost or stolen? If so, it is time to replace, re-key, improve locks, and improve procedures for storing and tracking keys. Evaluate your windows and doorjambs. Can any of these be opened or broken through from the outside with minimal force? Is it time to reinforce or replace windows and/or doors? It may be important to invest in burglar bars or roll-down security gates on windows, doors, and vents. Barriers such as concrete filled posts or large cement planters may deter thieves who would consider using a vehicle to smash into the building to gain access. Consider replacing any exterior hollow core doors with solid metal or sheet metal faced solid wood doors. Also consider Safety and Security Information for Federal Firearms Licensees steel doorframes, long throw dead bolts, and welding or preening any hinge pins to prevent their easy removal. I know this publication is not the law but I tried to follow their recommendations as close as possible. I invested a lot of time and money into this start up so I did not want to risk being denied or delayed for any reason. |
