I put 2-6pm and told the ATF that I do Internet sales. She said that it was fine since I am a home based that they will call before they come. And they do.

Do you have a web site or do you use something like gun broker? Also do the hold you to those hours? I'm waiting on our interview, the thing is my hours at my "real job" changes from month to month.

Just had my first inspection yesterday after almost 4 years. This question came up with the inspector. According to him, the hours you list provides the ATF the right to come, unannounced, at anytime during those hours. Since I told the inspector I had a day job, he said, ok, we'll call you when we get here and you have to be here quickly. He also said my wife could allow them entry to begin the inspection before I arrive. Fortunately, I only work about 10 minutes away.

Also I just got a type7 manufactures license. It's only a $150 and you are also a dealer. With the dealers license you can't build ar-15s and sell them. With a type 7 you save $50 every three years and you can sell firearms. Don't you have to pay ITAR fee also? It's $2250 a year. I'm just curious as I have been doing a lot of reading and thinking about going into business. |

Nope, I don't pay anything like that, but I would talk to the ATF about it.

By appointment only! Keeps the tire kickers away and doesn't waist your time.

ATF has nothing to do with ITAR, that's a State Department requirement. http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/registration/index.html All manufacturers, exporters, and brokers of defense articles, related technical data and defense services as defined on the United States Munitions List (Part 121 of the ITAR) (PDF, 7MB) are required to register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). Registration is primarily a means to provide the U.S. Government with necessary information on who is involved in certain manufacturing, exporting and brokering activities. Registration does not confer any export rights or privileges, but is a precondition for the issuance of any license or other approval for export. |
