Congratulations on the FFL!!!!

I have tried to be subtle and discreet on the NV HTF in regards to our FFL. There is a tacked thread on there with gun-related resources that we are listed in but that is about it.

We had a guy not too long ago get really excited about his new firearm-related venture that did get locked when he started a thread to talk about his new business.

If there is a thread already going about an upcoming gunshow that we will have a table at, I will encourage any local Arfommers to stop by and say hi without any mention of what we are selling and without asking anyone to buy anything. When another hometown poster asks for assistance on a transfer, etc. in your area, I wouldn't hesitate to offer your help in response to the thread without turning the post into an advertisement for your business. Sometimes an IM is a better way to reach people regarding topics like these as well.

There are some really great Nevada based site sponsors here on Arfcom that invest in supporting the site and I am as thoughtful as I can be to support them and not step on any toes.

This is just my own point of view of course and others may differ in their opinions. My $.02 is hardly worth even that

When we opened our shop in 2008 I sent an IM to EdSr about this same thing. He told me I couldn't come right out and say XYZ grand opening as that is advertising without being a paid dealer. Ed did say it was okay to post a "round about" ad for the stores grand opening. What I posted in the KS HTF:

Anyone around the XXXXXXXXXX Ks. area April 12th should stop by and get some free chow. My brother is opening a new store and is giving away free hotdogs, drinks, and some door prizes. Between 11am-1pm at XXXXXX St XXXXX City. I am sure the ARF.com types will find something of interest there,

I would check with EdSr before doing something similar just to be on the safe side...

I just mention periodically that I'm an FFL, especially in threads where people vent about ATF, general gun store policies, NICS delays, etc. I don't state who I am, where I am, pricing, or anything like that.

we have one of those in MO as well

it is a good resource for people so they can compare and see what others charge.

it's a fine line to walk so that the paying vendors don't get upset

Because we pay A LOT of money to do it the right way. Not to say I would care if anyone in NV got on and mentioned that they have an FFL, but at the same time, they shouldn't get to do it in an excessive way if I on the other hand have to pay for the privilege.

I agree with you. We checked into getting a Dealer account, but the cost vs. the size of our business isn't worth it.

And I respect that, which is why I don't go out of my way to announce my FFL

edit: I also don't understand the hate here for some home-based guys. We provide a service that many brick and mortar places are often cited for shunning.

For some of us, there is no brick and mortar places that our operations are negatively impacting. The home based guys are still selling guns, even if its one at a time and not buying a dozen or more at a time from a distributor. Every manufacturer should be embracing the home based guys because we're still selling their guns, even if its on a smaller scale. Not hurting us or their potential customer base by declaring that only stocking dealers can sell their products.

I know thats a different issue than what the OP is talking about, but I find it frustrating.

I can guarantee that Guido has no hate for home-based FFLs. We are a home-based FFL located in the same state (different cities) and co-exist on the Nevada Hometown Forum just fine. In addition, his support for the small volume dealers that carry his products has been great and we are even starting to get leads from his website since we are listed on there as a dealer.

Like I said in my first reply to the OP, as long as you remain discreet in your interactions on Arfcom related to your FFL, you shouldn't expect any problems from the staff or site sponsors.
