There's a way to get brand new A2 AUG's in the USA. Just as new AK's are brought in and debanned, these could be brought in and debanned as well.

--------

Not happening.

Is a 3x tube an option? If so, then yes

No, not an option.

The 3x tubes only work with the M1, SF, and original A3 optic. Speaking of which the original A3 optic is coming back in a very small quantity with the 3x optic tube. Not sure when they'll be here but last I talked with Pete he said he was getting a handful of them.

Sounds great. Any ballpark/guesstimate price range?

What Steyr made parts would be lost for US made parts?  It would be a shame to lose a great Steyr barrel for an FN one

There was a chance - a small chance - that these guns would have been able to come in.
Latest word today from Austria via Alabama is that Austria won't do it because these non-semiautomatic guns are banned by name.

Personally I disagree on Austria's conservative view on the importability of these guns.
I'm going to go solo through an importer and form 6 a gun via a UK dealer that is willing to export. Not certain on any timeline, but will update when I know anything substantial.

whose ban is Austria basing this on?
Link Posted: 3/7/2017 9:37:45 PM EDT
[#15]
The Bush ban from '89 I suppose, it's the only ban that's enforceable on the AUG.

What are the differences between the A3 and the A3 variants?

They already did import the A2, it was called the USR...

Unfortunately it was sort of neutered.

...but you may well be able to find them "cheaply" because of that, and follow the exact same steps as this plan would have required to make one "legit" - with only marking differences on the receiver to dissuade the purists....

I do have an USR and it works just fine for me.  I would like to deban it, but just haven't gotten there yet.  Mostly I would like to get the barrel threaded and a NATO stock.

If you don't like the USR stock, you can probably recoup most of your NATO stock purchase by selling the original. The only Grey stocks I know of are from the USR

I'd like for Steyr to release a USR gray stock without the icky ban thingy on the pistol grip.

Yeah, I've always liked the color.

Heck maybe I'll paint my 9mm stock or my NATO stock

I saw one guy on thebullpupforum that did his. I forget the exact color without looking it up. But it was nice,

This.
They're difficult to find cheaply though.

I feel lucky to have found this one for $1,339 shipped on GunBroker almost a year ago.

used 16" Austrian AUG barrel $350
used A3 stock $176 shipped
Total: $1,865

I love it. It feels handier than my A3, and is noticeably lighter.

I went the other direction--bought a USR stock off GB, trimmed away the thumbhole, and installed on my A3

With a factory optic?

As a friend of mine used to say...  Does a hobby-horse have a wooden dick?    I almost sold my A3 when the M1 came out, but I still can't warm up to the rails on top of the scope.
