Ok -experts,
I have read on PJ's site that Sabre produced 1860 or so
rifles before the government shut them down.
Anyone have any idea of how their numbering goes?
Mine is 3USA92*

On the top of receiver itself, it makes no mention of
"Mfg by Sabre Defence" like I have seen on other Sabre produced AUG's
.....but is machined " Sabre" under the receiver along with the serial #

Mine has the A3 comp so I am guessing it's not CHF and is button rifling
(Which is fine since I am not using it as a bullet hose)
Also digging the Austrian proof marks on the bolt carrier
with the "USA" serial number...

Hmm an oddity. It sounds like you have a 2012+ AUG (not made/assembled by SDI) in which someone swapped a barrel or flash hider. What do your barrel markings say?

Sabre Defense made almost 4,000 Steyr AUG A3s Serial # 1USA001 - 3USA999

Some of the last receivers were not finished so Steyr finished them and they had the newer FN barrels.

There were also several receivers that VLTOR made to match up with earlier part kits, so there are AUG A3s that were made by VLTOR that have serial numbers in the 1USA, 2 USA and 3USA range.

From his serial number, there shouldn't be an A3 compensator on it though. Unless it was changed or the entire barrel assembly swapped out.

Wow, thanks for the information gentlemen!
I actually tried an archival search before posting the question but can come up with anything.
I will pull the barrel tonight and see what markings are on it but it does have the A3 comp on the front.
As a sidenote, it looks as though my SDI AUG is one of the 250 that were produced
with SDI markings not visible or hidden and one of the last few before VLTOR started
production.

I reread what I wrote 4 years ago. Probably a good thing I wrote it all down as I already forgot some of this...

It is rumored that a few 3USAxxx guns are being sold by some retailers at discounted prices. These guns come with SDI barrels and A3 muzzle brakes. See post below for pictures of said guns and how to determine if you have an FN barrel or SDI barrel. I assume that this is to use up completed barrel stock from the seized items.

Makes perfect sense!
I have one of the very, very few "imposter" AUG's LOL
Ironically the lettering on the serial/information on the bottom of my AUG
looks identical to what VLTOR uses...
So, an AUG, produced by Sabre, seized by the Feds
finished and assembled by VLTOR....
And comparing to a friends Sabre produced AUG, the machining
and the final machining on the receiver is def a step above early Sabre AUGs
I figure when i finally shoot the barrel out, I will buy an FN CHF version.
