I think so but there has to be some way they could adapt it.

After holding the AUG and the new IWI - I wish the AUG had the handguard like this. It would make it feel more comfortable to me at least

They posted a new pic saying it won't have the bolt release which we all knew but I got a little excited they would include it.

Any more news on this or a projected delivery date? I'm on the list at PJs and am anxiously awaiting their arrival

Import permits were approved by ATF.
Once parts kits arrive then I would guess these will be built and put out as soon as humanly possible.

Still can't figure out if I want a 16" M1 or to try and get this STG77. Wonder why they paired the 1.5x optic with a 20" barrel. And I really wish it had the bolt release. Any idea how much more this edition will cost compared to a M1?
Link Posted: 6/29/2016 11:14:41 AM EDT
Oh, and it says A1 hammer pack. Are they interchangeable with other versions? I know Geissele is making an AUG trigger and want to make sure they're all compatible.

Aren't they all spoken for already? I'm on the list, but can't remember the exact price. It'll be a bit more than a run of the mill M1.

The only difference between the A1 and A2/A3 pack that I am aware of is the BHO pin that sits in the front of the pack and interfaces with the bolt release. There's a slot that the pin rides in with a hole at the top for removing the pin on the A2/A3. That slot does not exist on the A1 pack. The A1 pack can go in an A2/A3 rifle with full functionality minus the bolt release. An A2/A3 pack might require removal of the BHO pin to function in an A1. If Geissele is in fact working on an AUG trigger, and they use the factory BHO with the factory pin that can be removed, there shouldn't be a problem with using it in either the A1 or the A2/A3.
Link Posted: 6/29/2016 6:42:08 PM EDT
To clarify just a bit, there really isn't an "A2" hammerpack per se.

There are 3 types of hammerpacks, but really only two types plus one with a minor modification.

The original hammerpack you could say is an A1 pack because it was inside the A1 AUG's.
Then there's the NATO pack which is just an A1 type hammerpack with an extended magazine catch.

The hammerpack that is used with the A3 stock has a small mechanism on the front that is actuated by the external bolt release on the A3 stock. You could consider this a second generation hammerpack or an A3 hammerpack as it's called. An A1 type hammerpack will work in the A3 stock but you lose the stock's external bolt release ability.

The STG77 is supposed to have the A1 type stock and A1 type hammerpack. If one wanted to, I suppose he could swap the stock and hammerpack with a new A3 type but that sort of negates the "specialness" of it being the 40th anniversary gun.

The 1.5x scope and 20" barrel is the classic standard of the AUG. It makes sense that the 40th anniversary STG77 would have that combination also.

No clue on actual price, but at 400 units only, the price doesn't matter - they'll all be gone fast.

Thanks, I didn't realize that. Doesn't the Australian military still use the AUG? Do they use the 16" or 20"?

I may end up getting this and my MDR around the same time, though I'm not holding my breath that either will show up on time.

Keeping this thread alive. Last I heard from Pete was they were hoping to have them ready to ship by the end of the year or January. That was about 6 weeks ago. Has anyone else heard anything?

I'm cautiously optimistic for Jan/Feb.

12/15/2016 STG Update Direct From Steyr >

STG

We should have one to show at Shot Show and then they (Steyr, Austria) just told us around March delivery this AM

So there you have it, latest update from Steyr.

So now its March guys!

Link Posted: 12/15/2016 6:04:33 PM EDT
Well they better hope that the MDR actually doesn't become more than good on paper for me to be a buyer. I've always wanted an aug that has the iconic look but with a target date well after Shot? for me my money might end up elsewhere depending on what comes out( MDR, "Real" micro Tavor?. B&T apc 556 SBR or?) . Especially since I'm no longer in panic (it may be my last chance) mode. I still want one but I am not rich and have more than one interest. If nothing else comes out I want I'm still on board.
Link Posted: 12/16/2016 11:50:07 AM EDT
I'm on the lost to get one and still plan to do so. As long as my money isn't being held, I fine. I am not so amused with the MDR situation. I have money in limbo on that one and nobody is being very upfront.

I *sooooooooo* want that scope instead of the railed abomination on the M1. Please Steyr give us a 3X in the trim body!

For 3x the housing would have to be redesigned. That housing is the old A1 A2 style. The 3x has the optic tube in a non compatible orientation, the same as the A3 optic.

"Circle dot" was an option on the A1 A2 guns, I suspect these scope tubes have been sitting in a warehouse for quite some years...

So this is the A2/USR mounting rail and not the A3M1 mounting rail? Or said another way - this optic w/housing would slide on an A2/USR not an A3M1?

For some reason I thought this was the A3M1 receiver with its bolt-on optic mounting rail vs the A2/USR with its push-button optic mounting rail.

I've seen it mentioned in old articles, but have never seen anything else beside that.

You're correct, it is the M1 receiver.
This new optic housing that bolts onto the M1 receiver is a tweaked copy of the A1 or A2 type smooth housing, meaning it can not slide onto the A2/USR.
