I read over on another discussion a comment a guy made, "Don't remove the STEYR barrel after you have zeroed the rifle, or you will have to rezero it."

Is this true?

Why not? Unless you can guarantee , it will be reinstalled exactly as before.

Yes, it makes no sense to me either, particularly how the barrel locks into the chamber area with lugs of its own.

But thought I'd ask.

All the AUG's I own that I shoot have had their barrels removed countless times. No measureable POI shift at all.
The only time you will need to rezero is when attaching a different barrel.

Zero problems with zero shift when removing and reinstalling a barrel on the AUG. Don't worry.

No.

I've removed mine more times than I can count, and am actually pretty amazed how well it keeps zero.  You'd think it would move some, but no, not even an inch.

that's one of the most retarded things i've ever heard

i've removed the barrel on my 20" A1 hundreds of times since i got it back in the 90's and the zero has never moved a bit

Mine gets removed every time I show the damn gun to someone new.  Hell, it's one of the coolest features of the Aug.

Never noticed a need to rezero, but I'm not competing for marksmanship trophies with my Aug either.

I think that people who buy a battle rifle and then lament it is not punching holes within half of an inch at a hundred yards are the really foolish ones. I'll just chalk the guys remarks up to that.

Bullshit - I've done a thousand times

When I had an aug I was constantly thing off the barrel to clean it or store it.

The only problems I had with zeroing were entirely due to my admittedly horrible choice in scopes.

I cant figure out how to clean my barrel "without" removing it.  Mine has been off a couple hundred times and my optics are still good to go.

I had an A3 and removed the barrel everytime  I cleaned  it. Never had problems with poi. The AUG is a 3moa rifle before and after removing the barrel.

About sums it up for me, too...

And I've had an AUG since 1985.

Forrest

Edited to spell my name right...

Why not avoid a BS response in what otherwise has been a very helpful thread and discussion?

To the guy with the great group on the green target:

I assume that is from a benchrest.

Is it with a stock trigger?

And what ammo?

Magnified optic?

Impressive. The aug has a heavy barrel and very capable of excellent groups with quality ammo.
