Other than the cool looking 1.5 and 3X optic, is there an advantage of the M1 over the A3 if you want to use your own sight/optic?
CDNN has what seems like a decent deal on A3's with some mags now.

Call Pete, either way, but short answer - it depends.  
If you want to run BUIS + your own optic, I'd get the A3.
If you want to run light rings and no BUIS, or a RDS, reflex sight, etc.. I'd get an A3M1 with short rail.
The above assumes roughly equal (+/-$100) cost or so.

I like the looks of the M1, but practically, the A3 is better for me since I want BUIS and my choice of optics.

BTW, the TA11 ACOG suits the 20" barreled AUG very well.
