I've long lusted for an AUG and now have one, my dealer had an A3 M1 with the 1.5X optic hanging on the wall so I brought it home with me. I shoot left handed and this rifle is set up for right handed eject so he is going to order me in a left handed bolt and trade it out for the one in the gun. Not really relevant but the serial number is pretty low too. So are there any deals on mags out there, anything else I should know?

CDNN sells magazines for the cheapest. http://www.cdnnsports.com/magazines/aug-30rd-223-black-bottom.html#.VGQYzfnF_mg

PJ Athens is a US importer/liason (don't quote me) for Steyr and is basically the "go-to" for any part you'd ever want.  http://www.pjs-steyraug.com/augusrparts.html

The AUG is an awesome weapon but one of the main complaints is the trigger.  There is a $100 fix out there called the 20/20 TSM (Trigger Sear Mod) and it's an awesome product that will make your trigger break sharply albeit the 8lb+ pull still remains. https://www.ratworxusa.com/?q=node/113

The 1.5x Optic is an awesome part of the weapon system.  It lets the user (which Austria though of as 18 year old "conscripts" with no previous weapon experience) acquire ranges out to 600m. http://www.steyrarms.com/nc/news/items/article/different-ttps-for-a-different-carbine-employing-the-aug/

Obviously, it's a different weapon than an M4.  It is extremely reliable and more thought out than other guns of its era.  I have owned other bullpups but nothing gives you the impression you're holding an AUG until you're actually holding one.

Enjoy the weapon.  It will serve you well.

The best trigger mod is the $28 neu trigger
I have one and it took 2 minutes to install and has worked perfectly for hundreds of rounds

The only other thing you should do is paint the rifle in camo!

Have you tried one in comparison to the RATWORX 20/20 TSM?  What about NeuTrigger was better?

Congrats - it's an extremely reliable, great rifle!
I've got some 4-5K on mine or more, with much of it in competitions, classes, etc. - very reliable, and almost 'disappointing' when you break her down to clean...

I've had both the Neu Trigger and the TSM.
They're...different.  The main thing the Neu-Trigger does is reduce the friction in the trigger, giving it a slightly cleaner but noticeably lighter (but not match-grade light) trigger pull.
The TSM shortens both the break and reset considerably, and as a result feels, and probably is, a bit lighter, but that's not the major function of the TSM.
I can't be certain offhand which one has improved my competition times over the other, so am leaving the TSM for now, until the HTM becomes available again.

Congrats, I recently picked up an AUG m1 as well. If you are getting any parts Pete is the man to talk to.

Also this may have just been me, but sighting in the rifle was way off at 50yd -would recommend starting with a large target. Once it was zeroed I had no complaints, worked great.

I did the TSM trigger and Manticore charging handle upgrades, both are worthwhile. I like the rifle just because it's different . Overall length is about the same as a 10.5 ar with the stock collapsed.
