YES! Let's get these done!!!

I'm going to have to order a set of 1" ring inserts for mine.

I better see what I can find on amazon prime since we don't have much time left :)

You didn't bring any to the BP shoot?!?

Good timing, anyway - should have time to get it swapped and sighted in before my next match. :)

Just finished the instruction sheet this afternoon.

FYI, you will need a proparne torch to loosen up the loctite on the three bolts on the underside of the receiver that hold the top rail in.

Just wanted to mention that so no one gets the mount and then realizes they need to run down to the hardware store and it is already closed!

For those without a torch, is there another alternative way to loosening the 3 bolts?

Thanks!

a torch kit at home depot is cheap

a replacement receiver is not

I've removed factory rails on two A3s w/o heat.

In each case the factory thread locker broke w/o excess torque.

I used blue Loktite for reinstalling. No problems with the screws working loose.

So after second guessing myself on the proper way to take off the picatinny rail, I checked the manual…

Heating the three bolts until the loctite smokes is what is recommended.

BUT

If Herbert does not recommend it, then I would defer to his lifetime of experience over words in a manual.

Also fwiw, not knowing off hand, according to the manual a 4mm hex is the correct size.

If one was concerned, I would think holding a soldering iron to the bolt would work fine .

Without more than has been done, it's probably safe to use a small amount of heat on a bolt if you can't break the lactate by hand.
If you don't feel comfortable heating it, I know Pete has a special fixture for clamping the receiver.
Either way, as long as you're not a gomer with a torch or a wrench, all should be well.

Used a socket/ratchet with adapter and screws came off easily without heat.

I'm sure if you are just using the provided hex wrench or a screwdriver style socket you would need the heat but the ratchet did not take much force at all to break them free.

Love it so far. Range day Saturday.

Mail came.

One of these days I'm going to hopefully find my thin 19mm wrenches and swap that tulip for the AAC I've now had going on forever...

PS - I'm w/Sven - a short period of heat is not going to damage a thing.  You don't hold the torch in one spot for 10 minutes, you heat each screw a few seconds at best, move to the next, repeat, Loc-tite will smoke out quickly, done.  Replace with blue Loc-Tite and you don't need heat in the future...if you even need it the first time.
