I have a Sabre AUG A3 and I love it, besides the hammer forged barrels what other differences will the newer models have?

Call Steyr.
Yesterday they told me that:

The receivers and barrels will be different from the old Sabre A3's.
The first guns will still have a mix of Sabre barrels and receivers until that stock runs out.
They are expected mid August.

My conjecture is that:

The Sabre receivers and Vltor receivers will be visually indistinguishable except for the name on the side.
The ability to have a 1/7 CL CHF barrel makes the Vltor A3's more desirable than a Sabre A3.
Being able to attach a flash hider to the new A3's means that a new compliance part is being installed.
I'll save my thoughts on the people who can spend any amount of dollars on a rifle but can't devote 20 minutes to getting their body in shape for another thread. -skinnysarge79

There won't be any differences that you will notice.

I was under the impression it was going to still be the 1x9, do we know for certain either way?

The barrel twist will be 1x9

I'm sure down the road they might offer a 1x7, I sure will push for it and make sure they get it done!

Per Steyr the Sabre and Vltor made A3 AUG receivers will be made to the same specifications.

I am SO torn on a new A3 w/NATO stock or a Tavor when (yes, I have faith) they come out. Guess I'll just get hold of my buddy's and shoot the heck out of it then go from there!

I didn't know FN hammer forged any blanks but 1-7". I have no interest in a 1-9" barreled gun. A Steyr with Vltor receiver and FN CHF 1-7" barrel I would be all over.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with a 1/9 . Mind shoots great . After all they've been made like that since 1977

Some people want 1/7 so they can shoot very expensive 75 gr "super" ammo for maximum terminal ballistics at range, but the truth is 98% of consumers will only shoot 55 and 62 grain through their gun.

The major design feature and argueably selling point to the AUG is the quick change barrel. May as well take advantage of that by offering more variety in barrels like a 1:7 twist. That's one of the reasons I would think the A3 would be ideally suited for 300 AAC Blackout.

Comparable to saying that one would have purchased an SS Camaro if it came with Firestone's instead of Goodyear s.

I see it as being a nice choice, but all things being equal, the 396 preferable to the 350..

Same with the barrel choice, I will still buy one with the 1/9" but the 1/7" would be preferable to me...

Why? You didn't seem to concerned about the 1x9 barrel when I bought mine from you, quite tthe opposite in fact.

Anything from 45 grain to 75 grain should be fine.

I shot Hornady 75 grain 5.56 TAP, Hunting Shack, ASYM, and some leftovers from a company out of business and all 4 shot 5 rounds into or less than an inch at 50 yards with a Micro on my AUG. It shoots them just fine with 1/9, and it shoots 55 and 62 grain well, most of my 1/7's arent too favorable on 55 grain FMJ loads when you get to 100 yards and out.

Interesting. I've not noticed any problems out to 100yd with 55gr through my 1:7 twist barrels. Granted I was shooting all m193 spec stuff from PRVI, IMI, BVI, and Fiocchi so I was not expecting any better than 2 moa. All was done with a T1 micro. I did not have a chance to stretch out further than 100, will have to do so and see what happens.
