Are you guys crimping with the Lee FCD? I have so far on the thousand or so rounds I have reloaded. What are you guys doing?

I have many Remington 9 1/2 Standard primers I want to use.( presently using WLR's and would like to use those elsewhere) Do you think I'll notice much difference with a starting load (23.5 grains) of WC680 or A1680?
Loads utilize Fiocchi and Winchester brass. Any other reasons not to use standard RP's in these loads which get shot in two Mini 30's?

Yuup, forgot to mention bullet weight.  Loading 123 124 and 125 grain bullets all jacketed. As far as I can tell there is little difference in WC680 (also marketed by Winchester some years back as 680) and A1680. Chrony reading are almost identical over 10 shot strings. I thought I'd be ok with the Remington primers, but a second opinion is always nice to have. Thanks for the info.

I see A1680 is becoming available again in some areas. Mine will be nearly gone after this session, so it was nice to see this, though I was not "fast" enough to take advantage.

I've loaded 7.62x39 with T680 with good results. I never used the FCD on them though. It was before that die was available.

I used T680 for a Mini30 some 25+ yrs ago and was loading 168gr SMK. I reduced the charge of course. I used Winchester primers I believe.  Doubt you'll notice any difference with Remington.

Thunderbird had powder earlier this year at a good price, but now out.

Other powders that work well with 123 grain bullets is 24.5 grains of H-4198 or 28.0 grains of H-322.

I purchased a pound of WW-680 decades ago and stored it properly sealed in a cool dry place. It went bad on me in under ten years, forming into large clumps and hard to break up.

I don't know if anyone else had problems with the WW version of this powder, but they discontinued it's production years ago.

Reloading Berdan primed steel cases with cast lead bullets?

That's a job for one hard core reloader.

But how are you getting boxer primers to fit?

John

Ah, never mind.  I looked at the picture again.  Make that where are you finding Beerdan primers?

dryflash, are you wet tumbling your steel?  Those cases look really shiny...

I have some steel cases that I'm going to wet tumble because I'm getting tired of brushing and scraping them.  I've been looking at lacquer to spray them to prevent rust, but if you've done fine with just desiccant, I may just skip that too...

To tag along with a previous question, I have some plated .311 bullets for 7.62x39, and I was wondering how fast I should plan to push them.  Has anyone run plated bullets in AKs?  How fast did you load them?

What is the heaviest bullet you've loaded for 7.62x39?  Anything available that is heavy enough to run subsonic?

Thanks,
John

Dryflash

What velocities are you running the X-treme 123gr plated bullets at? Just got a gift certificate to their website and was thinking about picking some up as I'll be stepping into x39 reloading later this year.

Thanks

Eric
