I'm in the process of making a couple of 1000 rd runs of 9MM and .40S&W.

I've got some boxes for storage of the .40s but need to buy something for the 9MMs.

Where do you store your reloads?  Loose in a ammo can or in 100 rd ammo boxes?

I prefer the 100 rd boxes as they are easy to just grab a couple and go to range.

Where is a good place to buy boxes, etc.

I bought a bunch of the white paper boxes for my 300 blk/ 223 ammo for my better rounds.

I'm a cheap bastard so I like the plastic ammo boxes from academy that hold a bunch.

Pistol ammo goes into those green army cans. Rifle ammo goes into plastic flip top containers.

Mine go loose in an ammo can with a dessicant pack and a slip of paper with load info.

I tend to store them loose in the an ammo can.  I load my magazines before I go to the range or put some in a smaller container if I do not have enough magazines.

I also like the MTM ammo boxes. Available from Amazon, Midway, and local gun shops.

Smaller lots go into MTM or similar boxes.  If I'm loading large amounts for a class or something they either go directly in either a plastic or metal ammo can or on the plastic cards Federal ammo comes on them into the cans.

What does the military use to store ammo?

I pick up plastic boxes at gun shows and ebay. I used to reuse paper/foam boxes until they fell apart. I use a piece of painter's tape to label the load information on each.

I also use 30 cal ammo cans and some times 50 cal cans to store mostly loose surplus rounds.

I use ammo cans for bulk storage. When I head to the range I grab whatever I need from the ammo can and use whatever is available. I've used small coffee containers, used factory ammo boxes,  the cardboard boxes that xtreme bullets ships their stuff in. It just depends on what I can find.

Aside from brass, one of the things I pick up at my local range are all the empty 50rnd pistol ammo boxes.  I usually bring home 10-12 each time I go, so I load all my pistol ammo into those.  I use the wife's label printer to print load info and stick it on each box.

I put rifle ammo in quart or gallon size zip lock bags with a label dropped into each bag, then I put those bags into 50 cal ammo cans.

I like the MTM boxes. I buy them from Amazon. However I have now gone progressive and will start to really load a ton more at a time once my new bench is finished. Then I may just toss loose in an ammo can with a note about load data. Right now I have a half dozen 100 round boxes and 4 50 round boxes. Not sure I want to buy more boxes. We will see.

Loose in ammo cans but I sometimes store the loose 9MM or 40 S&W in heavy freezer bags inside the can. so I can grab a bag of 100 rounds to throw in my range bag.

Most rifle ammo goes into flip top boxes with a load data label like come from some of the bullet MFGs. Pistol ammo goes into ammo cans, or if I am out of ammo cans I will use coffee cans from time to time. I really need to find some more ammo cans pretty soon though because 1 spilled coffee can in your back seat will make you swear to never do that again.

Ammo for my AR typically goes into ammo cans as well unless it's something special like load development.

It all depends on how much volume you are reloading. I used flip top boxes for pistol ammo quite a bit until I got a Dillon 650.

The MTM boxes safely store the ammo and allow for a very quick and accurate inventory of how many rounds you have left.  They store compactly on the shelf.

They are cheap and prime eligible on Amazon.

This is the easiest way I've found. I use zip-locks and bag the eammo 100 rds/bag. Put a label on the bag with the loading info and store them in ammo cans.

I have mostly rifle ammo in GI ammo cans.

Pistol ammo?  Some is in those MTM (or MTM style 50 and 100 round boxes (you can sometimes get a great deal on them on Amazon or ebay).  Some is in plastic jars with the lids screwed down on them (the kind that you buy pretzels and candy in at stores like Costco and Sam's Club).  Some are in old 50 round boxes that new ammo came in from the store.

Sir, as you can see from all the responses to your question so far there are many different ways to store bulk lots of ammo.  FWIW, my choice is .50cal ammo cans filled with MTM or Dillon boxes of cartridges.

Since I have a variety of different pistol and rifle cartridges I reload for it's simpler to label the front of the ammo can to distinguish which particular cartridge it contains.  Each label also has a running quantity of the number of full boxes inside.  I actually have a stack of ammo cans arranged along one wall of my garage that is five high and ten across.  I use the 50 rd MTM boxes for pistol cartridges since they stack neatly inside the ammo cans 3X4 for larger cartridges or 4X4 for smaller boxes like 9mm and .380ACP.  For rifle cartridges I like the 20rd boxes for the same reason.

It makes it very easy to know at a glance how many rounds I have on hand of each cartridge because simply knowing the number of full boxes inside, either 50 or 20 round each times the number of boxes.  It makes it easier when I pack for a range outing to just grab a can for each gun I'm taking to the range.  HTH, 7zero1.

For my plinking stuff I use one gallon plastic paint pails with snap on lids. They stack well are pretty cheap. For the comp. rds We use the MTM boxes for packing/shipping.

Pistol ammo I keep in military ammo cans. When I go to the range for a practice shoot I toss a few handfuls in a ziploc bag. For matches I put my ammo in plastic boxes. Rifle ammo gets stored wherever I feel like it at the time, for the range I either pack in 100rd plastic boxes or leftover sleeves from FGMM or Norma ammo.

Anyone find any plastic 100 boxes that hold 9mm bullet down without wobbling? I have some 50 rounders for .45 and .357 that hold round bullet down without any wiggle, but I've not been able to find one for 9mm that doesn't move around.

I don't know how you knew that??  You are very wise I guess??

I have plenty of the steel cans 50cal and 30 cal.

I prefer not to store handgun ammo in such large containers.

All my rifle and some of my handgun ammo(factory) are in ammo cans.

I was just curious what others were doing with large quantities of reloads coming off these progressive presses.

This is what I do with pistol rounds, but I'll put about 250-300 in a quart size ziplok.

The blue plastic boxes Dillon sells are great. Equally as important is labeling. I place a wide strip of blue removable painters tape on the top of plastic box with load data of the contents. The blue tape tears off easily when its time to change the label.
