My go to powder for the AR 15 has been TAC............I am happy with it for an all round powder.

Many people use it but often say it is not their most accurate powder for the AR.

What powder do you guys use for the best accuracy?

My guns seem to like bullets from 52gr. - 65gr.

H335, RL15, Varget. all shoot close to the same, even my plinking handloads approach factory match ammo groups. I guess that means im doing it right

my carbines oddly enough dont like varget as much but man my bolt gun LOVES varget and imr4064

TBD.  I needs some advice from this thead too.

Varget was MOA at 200 with .308/168smk.  It didn't do so well with the 55gr in .223, about 3MOA, in a M15T with Leupold LRT.

I have some 2230 loaded up, but was mainly testing for reliable cycling.  (1680 sucked for this)

I will post more when I get back to the range.

I approach the AR as I do other calibers. I use different powders for different weight bullets. My 50gr varmint load uses IMR-4198, nearly all of my 55gr loads use H-335 or WC-844, for 60's and up (I don't use anything over 69gr) I use RL-15.

My Remington VTR-15 has shot everything I ever loaded for it very well and I have tried many different bullets and powders in it. The only bullet it didn't like was the Nosler 60gr Partition (2" groups at 100yds) but I didn't try to hard either to make it better. The 65gr Sierra GK easily shoots sub moa (RL-15) and has proved to be very effective on white tails.

This is a great powder for 52 to 60 grain bullets in .223. It meters well and is accurate over a wide range of powder charges.

In that weight range Benchmark. Heavier I like Varget or RL15.

Let me be the first to say it is not only the powder, it's the combination of bullet, powder and every other variable. Most of us just vary bullets and powders so let's stick to those.

I can't get 75gr Hornady's to shoot worth anything with H335. They work fine with a few other powders. Does this mean H335 is bad?

77gr Graf's seconds (which I wish I knew maker) with CFE223 is a combination that is better than most of us at least in the couple rifles I have tried it in.

55gr SP's with almost any powder I have tried is very good plinker.. I use 1200R, why? because it's cheap, available and works as well as the 7 other powders I have tried.

62gr PRVI bullets with H335.. Men.. fine but not great. I don't care enough to spend a better combo since I have a bunch of H335 to use up.

10 diff people will give you 10 diff answers.

There is no such thing as most accurate powder, but there is a such thing as what works with your rifle.

You can find info for what average charge for a certain powder works for most rifles with a particular bullet.

    Like for instance.

I have seen a trend in my own research for 77gr SMK's and IMR8208XBR with the average "most accurate" charge being in the 23.0 grs and above that being accurate in most rifles.

I have always had luck with picking a ball powder that I can get in large quantities and making it work. I am not quite ready to say that any powder in a range of burn rates can be accurate, but I am getting there. I cannot figure out why this wouldn't be true.

IMHO
Varget is the best, from light to heavy. But maybe not for volume loading.
For light bullets N133 or H322
For Medium to Heavy bullets and volume for same...TAC

I agree..  Varget works great, but when loading longer bullets to AR mag length, you most often end up with a compressed charge, and that can start to make things go squirrelly if you aren't careful.  I've actually crushed some HPBT Match Hornady bullets during seating due to the compressed charge.

Heavier bullets: XBR8208

For most stuff (aka "light bullets) I use H335.  When I was working with over 55 grainers I liked RL15

No such thing.  Depends on other components in the load, and also the amount of powder used.  Some powders have best accuracy at or close to maximum load, hot, high pressure.  Others have their best accuracy at more modest pressure levels.

For the bullets I shoot, in the cases I use, and the primers selected, I am finding high accuracy, velocity and consistency with slightly compressed loads of H-4895.  But that is just for those particular components in one particular carbine.

Hopefully, somebody will say CFE223. I just picked up 4lbs of it to try since I'm running out of H335.

MS556 is correct.

It Depends on all of the components

For me its a warm load H322 with BIB bullets.

I shoot suppressed a lot.

Buying that 8lbs of TAC wasn't the best idea.

It makes my brass and bullets tarnish really really fast.

Reloader-15.

When I shoot high-power matches almost everyone is using either Re-15, Varget, or H4895.
