I got my powder coat paint from Smoke in today's mail. I'm looking forward to using it - though I don't know when the weather will cooperate with my plans. It got to 100F today, in the freakin' middle of September.

Ordered the Lee 7.62x39mm 3 die set
Along with a couple hundred Remington 230 gr. .451 FMJ In hindsight,I should have just set aside a morning to make the 40 min. drive to my LGS Would’ve been cheaper buying my dies from there because of the online shipping/taxes I ended up paying And now I realize I don’t have any Lg rifle primers so I’ll end up making the trip anyway for those |

I finally got my toaster oven, so now I have all the equipment I’ll need to powder coat my cast bullets.
I’m looking forward to weather that allows me to work outdoors, so I can actually cast... I’ve also been looking around for a mold for 95 grain .356” truncated cone bullets. Feeding my .380 shooting habit will be easier if I can make my own bullets - that will feed in all of my .380s. |

Worked on some subsonic 75 gr PCC 308 rounds with bullseye. 3.3gr is 1100 fps.
Accuracy was not spectacular. About an inch at 20 yards... Maybe a softer alloy would help. |

Was able to test out my new RMR 147gr MW loads off a bench today and found 3.6gr of Sport Pistol gave a really nice group and chronoed at 132PF which is perfect.
Also chronoed the other power grain loads and a few others. Picked up some brass...what a long hot day after a 9 stage USPSA match. |

Cast up some 37 gr .225 cal bullets and some 117 gr .359 cal hollow points out of linotype to try out. The tiny bullets and the 2 and 3 cavity moulds I have barely got the pot down to halfway before I switched alloys.
Threw in some wheel weight alloy, around 12 or 13 bhn, and cast up some more of the 117 gr .359 bullets. Then, I heated up and started casting with the 75 gr 30 cal single cavity mould i got recently. At a good pace, and with no set backs, I can make approximately 330 bullets an hour with the single cavity mould... I timed myself. I sorted and powder coated the lino bullets and sized some of them. |

Taught a woman friend of mine how to reload rifle calibers.
She bought a .308 Savage 110 for hunting and it hits her pretty hard with 165's and 150's (she's about 5'3 and weighs maybe 115). She tried a couple of my 125's and liked them and surprisingly, her gun shot them OK at 100 yds. I told her that the only way to get that load is to reload and she said "Fine... teach me." So I did. I went through the whole thing, cleaning brass to resizing to trimming to measuring powder to seating bullets. I demonstrated, then she did the rest while I watched. She loaded 50 and was proud as a peacock (well, a peahen, I suppose...) |

Started a load work up with my cast powder coated 9mm bullets.
Did the first charge of 4 gr of unique and the weapon cycled and chambered another round. So, I dropped it down to 3 gr and go no ejection. So, I went up to 3.5 and then 3.7 and got stove pipes. Then, I moved to 3.9 and got function and slide lock back. Loaded 11 of them and tested them in both pistols at 3.86 to 3.96 gr and both functioned properly. Found out that our SD9VE has a more narrow throat and doesn't like anything over .356 diameter, but my RIA 1911 has a shorter length to the rifling so I have to shorten the OAL to get them to not engage too soon. |

Received a couple of bags of new (to me) brass from Rockey Brass, 5.56 and 300 BO.
I did not like how my existing 5.56 brass was accepting primers. This was my second or third time through and was still getting a few honked up primer insertions. So, just shot'em without the catcher. The 300 BO replenishment was necessitated by not having a lot to start with and me over reaming inside the mouth because I was getting a lot of bullet peel when seating. I fixed the peeling by getting a bell'er for the powder drop on the Dillon, but ended up having shortish brass after fixing the mouth edge. Shot them without retaining as well. I hope to start development of my sub rounds for the BO this weekend, if shipping all goes right. I am a little embarrassed by buying BO instead of making, but I just don't need anymore hobbies or hobby ancillaries. |

I cleaned my dies yesterday. Today I wet tumbled my meager collection of range pick up .45 Colt, along with the .44 Mag brass that masqueraded as .45 Colt in my range policing. And 3 lonely .45-70 cases as well; it would have been shameful to leave them there on the ground.
The cases are drying now, and I'm about to clean my new revolver. I have some good recommended loads - Lyman 49 has a very good selection - and I hope to have more than a few choices to break in my SAA with. I also picked up a quarter-sheet silicone baking sheet this morning. I'm going to calibrate my toaster oven's temperature control later today. (For those not in the know, you use a toaster oven to bake/cure powder coat painted bullets, eliminating that pesky, nasty and messy "lubricating" step with cast bullets.) If I can ever actually survive outdoors for more than a few minutes at a time, I hope to start casting some bullets, then powder coating them. |

I spent a LOT of time researching silicone oven mats for my toaster oven. Mine has a standard-ish rack for a toaster oven, but it's still a challenge to find a mat that is actually sort of close to the right size. Cast Boolits hasn't been much help on this front; "make your own pan out of wire mesh like I did" or some such guidance hasn't been useful for me, especially without, ya know, pictures of "what I did".
Anyway, I did manage to arrange some time this weekend to get outdoors (early in the AM) and get some casting done. It's more than "penciled in," but not quite 100% committed, since the weather has to cooperate too. But I'm hopeful. |
