1 set .40 S&W dies 250ct Berry's 180gr flat point .40 1 10mm/40S&W Loadbook I don't care how close they are, I really don't like that both calibers are in the same Loadbook. I really love those little books, but having load data for both like that presents an issue to me. Put big "X"s through all the 10mm pages, they're still usable but not easy to confuse. |

How's your 1050 running ? Just finished processing 30,000 5.56 cases. On the same set up. Aside from case feeding issues no parts were changed. Primer punch pin finally busted and bent the bolt too. End of a great run. Now for another set-up. Only now I need to do both presses. Time to call Dillon that was my last spare bolt and need a neck die too. Both presses will be processing Lake City 5.56 soon.
ETA Found everything needed in the spare parts. That includes the die. 90% of one set-up complete. Add brass adjust swage, headspace and trim. Want to see if I can do 60.000 |

Cast about 15 330g .458 cal bullets, then went to the store and got some valve lapping compound, and lapped the mould to help with bullet fill out and release. The result, bullets came out .4585" instead of .4575" and weigh in at 5 grains heavier. They also look much better and are crisper.
I cast a bunch of those newer better bullets and melted down the older ones. It is a single cavity mould and timing myself, I only made 35 in 10 minutes... super slow. After the casting session, I heated all the bullets to about 200 degrees and did the shake and bake method on them with harbor freight red. They baked for 20 minutes at 400 degrees after that. While the forge was heating up, I resized 45 6.5 creedmoor and about 60 or 70 458 socom brass. Then, while the bullets baked, I resized and trimmed a couple hundred 22 TCM on my 550 with the RT1200. Lessons learned for the day: 458 socom cannot be dry tumbled (or wet tumbled probably) with any caliber smaller than 45 ACP. 556, 9mm, 40, 38 spc, 357 mag, and 22 tcm all embedded themselves inside the cases of the socom... Iron moulds take forever to heat up... |

I also explained to a non reloading friend about processing 223 brass. I want to get him into reloading, and I think he's leaning that way. I then switched the 1050 back into reloading mode. It's really simple and quick with Hornady's lock rings. Once again, thanks Angus6! I had always thought about the differences in brass webs and primer pockets and the affect it has on swaging. I thought it might be easier to set up the swager if I could actually see the primer pocket while making adjustments. So I cut some of the common 223 brass that I have around. I was pretty surprised that the different manufacturers are pretty similar. At least with the brass I have, not enough to make a difference in the swaging station. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/schenninge/GUN%20STUFF/E4B8EC2E-808C-4B7C-9D69-68BF13D96A97-3553-000009975900528E.jpg How about you? Did a load work up with 458 socom bullets made from 45acp brass version 2.0.
These are much prettier and I decided maybe a different powder. So, so imr 4198 I had laying around did the trick. Version 2.0 (left) and version 1.0 (right) Attached File May get to see how they shoot Saturday. Will be my last weekend before my daughters come down for the summer. Then I shut down the shooting and reloading and focus on them. |

I did some serious neatening of my loading room. Lord it needed it.
After my casting work last weekend I had stuff sort of "unorganized," but I haven't had a chance to do anything about it until today. So the ingot mold got put away, and the ingots stacked, but that was it. Today I put away things like the general purpose tools I'd used, and that sort of thing. Doing so meant some real thought into where stuff should go, so lots of stuff got organized that had nothing to do with casting. After that, I started researching loads for 120gr truncated cone 9mm lead bullets. I'm thinking I need Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook, because that's a bullet that isn't well covered by Hornady, and even Lyman 49 just skims over it. |

Did some training for some new reloaders who want to try to start out loading soon.
Went through the process of loading 30-06 from start to finish. Then talked about a few other rounds. Only thing I am worried about is that one of them has a 458 Socom he wants to load for soon. Not a beginners round. Then, I started sizing and powder coating some 458 cal bullets. Going to test the accuracy difference between plain base powder coated, gas checked after powder coating and gas checked before powder coating. 20 rounds of each. Should be interesting. |

Tested some 458 Socom, 22 TCM, and a bit of 6.5 CM.
TCM tests were men. 48gr bullets are too heavy for the 1 in 16 twist. They grouped about 1" at 50 yds though. CM surprised me. Did not group well at all. Will have to redo the test. I know the rifle will shoot. Socom was interesting. Turns out, gas checks are mandatory. 29.5g H110 under 330g PCC bullets seated to 2.07" No gas check. I stopped shooting after 10 rounds. I had 20 to test. Attached File Gas check applied after all powdercoats Attached File Gas check applied after first powder coat but before second coat. Attached File I also shot a bunch of my swaged bullets made from 45 acp brass. These were very accurate. I will be pushing them hotter and shooting at 100 yards next time. They may be sub moa capable. Maybe. |

I reloaded today for the first time since February -- just haven't had the urge to do any lately. Ironically, with the weather at its hottest so far this year I sat down in my warm work room and pounded out some 11mm Mauser.
And for good measure I resized a pile of 7.62x54r, 30 Carbine and 30-06. |

Loaded 100 rounds of 22 TCM with 37g PCC bullets over 9gr of H110.

I went to run a small batch of 9mm using some lead bullets I bought some time back, but I found that I had mis-remembered their weight. They are 125 grain RNs, and I'd thought I had a box of 147 grain RNs. So I have to throw out my research and start over...

My order of 2k 45 acp 230gr rn bullets from rmr came in a few days ago as well as 1k 175 smks. Yesterday I went to a local reloading store and got 8lbs tire group, 3k srp, 3k app, and 3k pl and 2k Berry's 55gr fmj rounds .
Couldn't resist and loaded up the 2k of 45 ammo earlier today. Also made between 50-60 7mm rounds and 243. Wet tumbled 500 308 twice fired brass and the last bit of 9mm brass. Unfortunately I have to get new tires for my truck this weekend so there goes my case feeder for my 650 till the following weekend. |
