  1. gage checked the last of my 40SW LSWC's
  2. printed out set of loads for ladder testing 180 gr TC's in 40SW
  3. cranked out about 150 rds of 9mm
  4. the 650 was making some type of grinding noise so relubed the insert block and the indexer, slapped some oil on the ram, seems to have fixed it

tumbled another ~1k rounds of 9mm. I've been collecting all the bits and pieces to start reloading. need to get a bench setup then try my hand at making some rounds.

I spent more time than I should have comparison shopping for 9mm FMJ bullets between Roze Distribution (for Zero brand), RMR and several other sources.  For what I’ll use ‘em for, cheap is OK, but I’m too anal to just take what looks like an OK price...

I’ve pretty much decided on the RMR-made FMJs, but now I’m also considering whether plated bullets will work with my 1100 fps-ish loads...  Dang it, but I overthink stuff too much!

Got set up to make a run on 9MM. I am gonna load every round I can with what I have on hand.

My life may change soon and I feel like having components laying around that are not put in cases is counter-productive to efficient life flexibility.

I bought an old set of Lyman AA 44 mag dies for the seating die, since I had the plug for the 429303 handy.

I looked at the sizing die and there appeared to be a gas check stuck on the decapping pin. That isn't terribly weird, so I disassembled the die and found this.

Also, I loaded some 44s.

worked up a set of loads for a ladder test of AA#7 and 180 gr TC lead cast bullets for 40SW.  Went to range and test fired them.  Going with 8.2 grains.  Was switching over from 175 gr LSWC 40 projectiles and decided to clean the dies on the 550B.  Started with a patch dipped in rubbing alcohol and ran it down the taper crimper.  Didn't go very far, there was a lead projectile stuck in it.  That explains the primed case and powder in the output bin I found when gaging the rounds afterwards.

Sizing die was relatively clean.

As expected the seating die had lube in it.  The die body itself as easy to clean.  The seating stem was kind of tough.  Bullet lube was packed in tight on the stem

Was using one like this

Wiping with a patch, scrubbing it out with q tips didn't work.  What finally worked was a small square patch laid over the top of the stem and using the base of a spent 22LR case to twist the patch around

Felt the need today.

Loaded 1099 rounds of 9MM using 115gr PCC over 5gr of unique.

(Had a single primer fall to the floor and couldn't find it. Found a FGMM primer while looking for the CCI 500 so it evened out)

  1. cranked out 200 rds of 9mm on the 650
  2. did about 100 rds on 40SW on the 550B
  3. the 550B started to bind, thought it was time to relube the pivot arms, turns out it was the primer bar galling up again.  Took apart the primer system, cleaned with rubbing alcohol after sanding down the bottom side of the primer bar, tweaked it, seems good to go.
  4. Exploring getting one of those primer bar bearing thingies
  5. Oh, a 9mm case snuck into the 40SW batch of brass, made a funky looking round

Stopped at a couple gun shops on the way back from the doctors office.  At the first one I picked up an RCBS primer flipper, which works a lot better than the old Flambeau that I had.  I never could get 100 primers in that tray without spilling.  Picked up 1000 Winchester large pistol primers at the second shop.  Came home and loaded 100 rounds of .45ACP and boxed them up.  I need to order some more 200g .45s, but that will have to wait until payday.

Tumbled, resized and tumbled some more 6.5 CM and 308 after doing some testing at the range today. (I had the day off, most people didn't, range was dang near empty!)

Then, for good measure, I knocked out 100 9MM just to keep making dents in my "make all the ammo you can" plan.

Installed new mods for my second Dillon 550 and my 650.

Not a whole lot of difference with the phenolic ball on the 550’s but on the 650, the difference was remarkable.
Much smoother and very slick.  Don’t know if it is because both 550’s are 15 and 20+ years old respectively.

The 650 also had the primer stop installed and works very well, tolerances are very tight yet the operation is slick and positive.
The cam bearing mod under the shell plate was also installed and that went pretty slick.

That snowshooze guy better stop making these mods ... I am getting tired of telling him to take my money!

I also installed the primer bearing plate/roller bearing mods on the 550’s, definitely worth doing as there is no slop in the primer actuation movement.

The 550 primer slide mods come from another person in Texas, I tried one out for the first 550 and liked it so much I bought another one for the second 550.  They are expensive but workmanship and quality is as close to perfect as one can get.

Wonder what I’ll be doing this weekend?

Put roughly half of it in the F.A.R.T three hours ago and....

I cleaned the case feed tube on my progressive’s case feeder, along with the rest of the drop path.  I was getting ready to clean out the case feeder bowl when we had a power bump and I had to go reset some stuff...  I was amazed at how filthy the feed tube was.  It only looked a bit dirty, but running an alcohol-soaked piece of paper towel through it a few times made the tube look great - but the paper towel was disgusting.

Did my first ever "OAL" work up. Testing .030" difference in bullet jump for a 155.5g Berger in 308. Hope to shoot them this weekend and see the results.

Then, loaded up 19 140g nosler partitions in 6.5 CM.

Thought about doing some more 9MM, then didn't. I am hungry.

I started by cleaning up my reloading room including the reloading bench which I couldn't even see since it was buried in crap.
Took apart the Hornady LnL AP Progressive press for a thorough cleaning.
I found 32 rounds of .45ACP on my reloading bench in little bunches. It's been so long since I reloaded last that I couldn't remember why they were grouped like they were so I disassembled all of them and started over.
In the process I broke my kinetic hammer.

I also de-capped 200 pieces of Lapua .308 Win. Brass and threw them into the wet tumbler.

After supper I will anneal 200 pieces of LC for my M1A National Match.

Went squirrel hunting this morning with my 2 varmint 6.5 creedmoor loads. The 2000 fps load and the 3400 fps load.

Didn't get a single shot off of at a squirrel... only saw about 5 all morning.

But we did get a few shots off at some crows and an apple.

So, now I am tumbling the 16 cases we lit off today after I resized them.

Getting ready to knock out a few more hundred 9MM while they get the lube off.

Palmetto State Armory has free range time this month. Finally got to advantage of it.

Took 4 mags of 9mm. 2 mags of WWB and 2 mags of my reloads.
Reloads are 4.4grains of W231 under an RMR 124 grain bullet. No malfunctions and I was happy with the accuracy of them.

I had to calm myself down a bit. First time shooting in a couple of months. A bit shaky

Really glad they shot how I wanted them to!

115g egglestons over 4.8-5g of unique. Great, reliable, soft shooting 9MM.

Only have about 200-300 left to load an I will be done with 9MM for a while.

Got my stuff in from midway. Does making a custom case to measure the lands count? Built a 6.5 Creedmoor case now that I have my case shoulder size length dialed in. Tried my new case reamer out. It's a whole lot better than my ancient Bair reamer.
