Loaded some 7mm RM for accuracy testing this weekend.

I shot about 30 rounds last trip to the range and did not let the barrel cool enough. Groups were disappointing at 100 yards after the first two groups, so I am loading them up again to re-test. This time with a break between each shot.

After a year I finally finished-ish a reloading room, and bench, and mounted stuff.

Now I just need to figure out how to calibrate these micrometer dies.Attachment Attached File

Slow day.  De-primed, polished, sized some .30-.30 brass.  Found out I didn't have much, so traded a box of new Federal GM 220 Swift to a neighbor for more brass.  Finally received my 175gr pills from Brownells. I will punch out some test loads tonight, hopefully test them after trap shoot tomorrow.

Polished up some .45ACP brass for the next evolution.  Will probably load at least a thousand of them.  230gr Berrys plated LRN. I need to make sure I am pushing the max load because they are only about 98% running in a Glock 21 suppressed.

It is nice having several neighbors that are shooters and reloaders.

Excellent idea on that drying screen.  Much better than using a towel.  I happen to have some leftover solar screen, so that will go on my to-do list!!!!

Kind of related.....I finally took the 8 lead shot bags I had from loading shotgun shells and filled them with sand for new sand bags.

I had been putting it off for about a year.  Hard to imagine being I got the sand from the backyard.

Ran 500 Nosler 123 grn .310 Ballistic tips through the .308 sizer to load in the 7.62x40WT.. Converted 500 pieces of once fired 2016 LC 5.56 brass into 7.62x40WT, they are in the wet tumbler currently to get cleaned up. Will probably work up some crono loads tomorrow.. I'm thinking AA1680 for the powder as it gave the best velocity and I need to make gas so it will cycle reliably with and with out the suppressor.

Tumbled about 1500 .223 cases and 500ish .308 cases

Also concluded my experiments with various things added into the water/pins/dish soap mix. I determined that just throwing a bunch of brass into the FART with steel pins, water and Dawn (the blue kind with the baby duck on it bc I am a closet hippy who recycles the boxes my ammo comes in and shit) yields absolutely gleaming shiny brass in about 2-3 hours.

My .308 and .223 .mil LC brass came out looking like damned trophies

Have yet to find Lemishine in the grocery store but the search continues.
Tried some other things out: Finish Jet-Dry, Brasso, Barkeepers Friend. Neither of them worked as good as just water and soap.

.223 cases tumbled with only Dawn dish-soap (left) and .40 S&W cases wet tumbled with a polishing agent in the water with the Dawn (right)

If you have a Wal-Mart near by, check in the dish soap/dish washer soap aisle.

Went to the local Farmer's Market and handed out a few free samples to my [new] friends.  One guy asked if I could do +P+ 9mm, but I declined.  If it ain't in a published book, I won't load it.

There's a lot of pent up demand for specialty loads around here.  I hope the BATFE gets their stuff done quickly.

Well yesterday I loaded up 700 rounds of pulled m855 bullets on my LCT, while just vegging in front of the computer all day. Started with pre-prepped, primed brass.

I'd normally use my 650xl, but that's out in the garage,it's setup for 9mm,  and it's too hot right now. I've got the LCT on a Lee Reloading Stand and I leave it in my office.

I can surf the web, watch movies, etc. all the while loading ammo in the A/C. So far this summer I've loaded up a bunch of .380, .40 and .38 special as well ,which are calibers I don't shoot very much. Now I have enough loaded to last me a few years!

Today I think I'll watch the Watkins Glen race on the computer, and load up another gallon bag or two of the m855 pulls, and have a nice chill day!

I did a whole lot of measuring and a whole lot of thinking.  I was trying to set up my .308 Winchester sizing die and I wanted to get it set for something that would work with both of the .308 rifles I currently own, a Sig 716 Patrol Rifle and a Spanish FR-8 (converted Mauser large ring) bolt action rifle.

I don't have a rifle headspace measuring tool for .308, and I don't have any recently fired cases from my rifles, so I was planning on setting the die for something halfway between min and max and checking both rifles.  Then I got a wild hair and measured the cartridge headspace of some genuine issue NATO rounds.  The issue rounds were WAY shorter than I'd expected.

I wrote about it in a new thread I started this afternoon.

It was time to rebuild the bench.  Disassembled everything and put on three coats of polyurethane.  Next step is to add some pegboard on the walls and build a couple of shelves for the Dillon tool heads.  I'm also going to put in a cabinet for powder rather than having it on open shelves.

LOL!  It's upside down because it's empty . . . waiting for me to empty the powder measure back into it.  I was wondering who would be first to comment.

attempted to find powder today at a decent price locally. BPS wanted 40 bucks a pound for most of their stuff. It was so expensive it would cost the same to order 3 pounds from powder valley and pay the hazmat as it would to get it at bass pro shops. The local academy said they dont carry reloading supplies. They pointed me to a few who did but my 8 month old daughter was with me so that is as far as i got. no 6.5 grendel ammo either. boo.

Messed with some Norma brass in 300WM. It's nearly 40 gr. Lighter than Sig so I need to tinker with the load a hair.

This stuff is great though, if I were rich it's all I'd use. 100% prepped, sorted, etc. Nice stuff.

Loaded 15 rounds of my favorite 223 long distance accuracy load. Went to the range and ladder tested through 90 rounds in search of a AR-Comp/55 gr FMJBT load. Went long distance with my accuracy load. Shagged ~500 223 LC, ~100 .45, ~150 9mm, and a bunch of assorted rifle brass to include ~50 .308. Got home, cleaned, sorted, deprimed and tumbling the first batch now. Just a thought but, now that ammo prices are dropping, I am seeing a lot more brass left lying around. Attachment Attached File
