Broke down 1000 of the 380acp I picked up yesterday for cheap, offered my buddy 1000 of the 380's for componets. Went back to the place where I got the 380 and picked up 6k reject/ pull down 9mm ammo.. Also stopped off at Dillon and picked up a case gage..

View Quote Last night I "discovered" about 800 dirty (but already deprimed) 9mm cases I'd stashed away. So I counted them (808, with three .380 cases that snuck in, and 6 or 7 nickel cases) and sorted out the GI headstamps. Some of the GI cases are probably already decrimped, but I need to inspect them to see if they're decrimped or "reamed to death." That will be after I wet tumble the lot of them, which is at least two, maybe three tumbler loads. So this morning - a day off 'cause I work tomorrow - once I get off my tail, I'm going to start tumbling that stuff. The 9mm was in a 25# cat litter bucket of brass that was stashed back behind stuff. Along with it was probably a similar number of .223 cases, also deprimed but dirty. They'all get dealt with later. |

Got a 550 toolhead set up in 300 Mag, loaded 12 rounds with 190 SMK and Ramshot Magnum to test in a new Savage.
The 50 count bag of Winchester brass I bought is garbage. Crushed shoulders, crinkled necks, extremely uneven neck length, bad runnout. I'm not impressed. I'm not normally a complainer but this warrants an angry phone call. If it shoots these OK I will have good justification to seek out better brass. |

Now I need to break out the Chrony and do some testing. I hope the weather holds. |

I tumbled all of the "discovered" 9mm brass yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to put it all away until today after work. Over 800 cases, all nice and clean, but some of them are now visibly flawed and need to be culled... I have work to do on those, but I'll get there later.
While I was finishing up with this batch, I did a quick inventory of other 9mm brass I have on hand. Somewhere over 3k clean and ready to process is not a bad "on hand" quantity. Once I finish my .40 S&W load tests, I'm going to zero in on a couple of 9mm loads; one with a 124 grain plated/jacketed/coated bullet for general purposes, and one with a lighter bullet (maybe as small as 100 grains) for low recoil practice (and maybe for training gunshy shooters...my daughter in law is not yet a shooter, and I want to change that. |

Received my Lee Auto Drum powder measure today with the two charging dies. There was a good sale and free shipping, sooooo....
I like my RCBS Uniflow for more precision use, but for a good bit of my .223 stuff I think this unit will be a little less fiddly...I hope. |

WOOHOO! The Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler I ordered on Monday finally shipped today. Hopefully, I can start making some shiny brass next week. Is there any special recipe for cleaning fluid?
ETA: Also ordered 3,400 9mm cases and 1,850 .45 ACP. That should keep my right arm busy for a while. |

Was planning to powder coat another batch or two of bullets, but at 86% humidity I didn't think I'd get good powder adhesion.
Decided to change gears a bit. Cleaned up the reloading room and settled in to load some 9mm. Got 180 rounds in and the return spring on my Lee Safety Prime system broke. Went online and found that Lee has a new, stronger version of the spring. Ordered the part and called it a day. |

Loaded 50 rounds for velocity tests with my Ruger American .450 BM.
300 grain XTP and 310 grain WFNGC cast bullets with AA5744 powder. Looking for 1500-1600 fps and nice small standard deviations. |

Stopped by Cabelas today to kill an afternoon, ended up coming home with a bag of Sig branded 300 Win Mag brass.
At first look this stuff is exceptional. Neck thickness is extremely uniform, they appear to be trimmed at the factory to keep things consistent (instead of using as little brass as possible and hoping for the best like most). Weight is very, very consistent at about 250 +/- 1.5 gr. Runout looks good and primer pockets/flash holes look good too. Annealing is beautiful and consistent. I'm really curious who makes this stuff for them. The price is good at about $36/50. Also picked up a box of 180 TTSX. Have never had great accuracy with lead-free bullets but then again I have never tried Barnes branded bullets. |

I finished up loading the last two powders for my 5-powder .40 S&W test loads, then I cleaned up everything. It felt good to finish the loading part of this project.
I have 110 rounds of .40 to test, a pistol with a 4" conventionally rifled barrel, two optical chronographs, and a decent pistol rest. Now all I need is a day off when it's not 110F with no shade and 100% humidity, and I'll make some progress! |

I got a Frankfort Arsenal Rotary Tumbler a few days ago when it was on sale for $108. ended up sizing/depriming around 1500 9mm brass that i dry tumbled and wet tumbled them. needless to day they came out much nicer. Then deprimed about 700-750 556 and wet tumbled those as well. At this point im pretty sure my dry tumbler is going to be out of business except to maybe clean some range brass real quick.
I also picked up a Chargemaster 1500 from an older guy who was getting out of reloading for $100. Everything works "well" except 1 small issue... the 3, 6 and 9 buttons dont really work and the 2, 5, and 8 sometimes click as the 3, 6, and 9. not the end of the world but it can be annoying. The plus is the guy had everything for it, even the original box and.... the warranty card So i contacted RCBS and seeing what they will do. He said he got it about 8 years ago and never had an issue. |

Using American reloading pull down plated 9mms, used AA#2 and Wolf SPM primers to make a good load on mixed range brass for both my G19 and M&P 40 with the 9mm barrel.

Been decapping and wet tumbling 9mm this weekend. Trying to figure out how to get the case lube off my cases with wet tumbling... 1,000 more to do, and all my 9mm cases will be decapped.
Broke the primer index arm spring on my XL650. Ordered a new one. |

Wasn't too thrilled by the mesh covered drain holes in the FA media separator, particularly the one on top that's designed for washing the soap off your brass. So I made a couple drying racks.
Attached File 36"x27" with 4 6" legs overall dimensions works perfectly in terms of modular construction. (You can build 2 at those dimensions with 3 8' pieces of lumber) Used deck screws to put the frame together. 36" length also works just right with the roll of screen I used for the surface. I attached the screen with T50 staples (if you don't know how to stretch a canvas, there are plenty of YouTube videos). The project could be done for $10 cheaper if I'd used window screen instead of Solar screen, but the solar screen is fine enough that I can use one to dry a load of brass, and one to dry my stainless steel media without fear of losing a bunch of pins (I hate putting my gear away dirty/wet). Initial thoughts are that when one of these craps out, im going to try a larger mesh fiberglass screen instead for comparison. As for the drying racks themselves. I wet tumbled 450 .308 casings, and they work great! I run my brass through the media separator, and then dump the brass onto the rack, where I spray it off with the hose. I'm done using Barkeepers Friend I think. The cases I did with just Dawn came out looking much nicer. |

I walked into the room in the basement with all my reloading gear and poured out my range pick ups into a 5 gal bucket labeled "needs sorted, cleaned, and processed". Looked at the stack of primers, bullets and powder. Wrote down some things that need to be looked into. Turned off the light and walked out.
Having a hard time being at the bench while it is so nice out. I guess that is why Iowa has winters. Gives me time to reload. |
