Just a suggestion....for those keeping up with the thread....a bit off topic

I met a really nice gentleman today that is willing to give me a class on handloading........his ONLY stipulation is that I devote 6 hours to what he teaches.....

HELL I am all in on this.......he is trying to foster the "art" of handloading and I suppose we hit it off......

If anyone can find a "Mentor" on handloading then you should do so.....I was honestly surprised that there are folks out there willing to teach the Art/Science of making crafted rounds AND are willing to teach a TOTAL NEWBIE on the subject.

Don't be surprised, they're all around. The bigger problem is getting the student to commit to a time and place.

5 to 6 hours might be about right for someone that has done absolutely no reading; there's no doubt it's plenty of time to bring someone up to speed on the fundamentals. Hopefully your new friend doesn't venture off into advanced topics that are better left until after you've learned the fundamentals and have some foundation for understanding the purpose of those advanced steps.

Aero,

He stated that we would be going over the fundamentals and all the safety aspects involved. That is what I need :)!

Update on rifle.

Spent about $500 modifying my rifle for better accuracy with my reloads. Turned out to be great! However I had to return my optics back to Midway because they sent me a defective red dot sight. Also my NcStar rifle scope was returned back for warranty. So I'm basically stuck with magpul mbus manual sights.

Shoots like a dream, and the weight is good weight as it reduces recoil significantly. The rail is a full length 12.5" free float rail, on a 16.5" barrel.

Does anyone know if you can use regular Large Pistol Primer in a 44 magnum? Large Magnum pistol primers costs $13 per 100 here in Guam which is a major rip-off

Depends on the powder. Your loading data will call out the primer.

For max velocity with the slow powders, then you need Mag primers. H-110, W-296.

Medium burning powders, Unique, True Blue, use standard primers.

Or use Win LP primers, they can be used for all powders.

Just had to update this thread with my new toys! Got them today 4th of July from my FFL :)

Originally I was going for a Glock 21 rather than a 1911, but the actual CEO of Rock Island Armory (on facebook) convinced me to get the M1911A2 Hi-cap. He guaranteed me a lifetime warranty, and even sent me 2 free P14 mags. Have not fired it yet, but hopefully I can go to the range soon to test these babies out!
As for my 44 magnum, that thing is a big son of a gun! I just love the weight, feel, and look of it.

Could you decap using a shell holder and this pin? I have a 5 gallon bucket of brass I would like to decap and clean.

Sure you can but why not run it through a sizind die and size it at the same time you are depriming?

Oh those are 2 M1911A2, I bought 2 since they were on sale. My local gunshop here was selling the exact same thing for $700 and it was selling like hotcakes.

I just wanted to update this post on a must buy item that I have found to be the best multii tasker.

Not only can you use this to pop out any primers (including crimped ones). You can actually use this as a pin punch for your AR15 or in my case my 1911s. I found all I needed was this tool to completely disassemble my 1911 to install a new trigger and grip safety.

Worth the $1.99, infact best $1.99 I've ever spent. This thing is also indestructible

I mount mine on a drilled block of wood, Holds many more primers and has a place to keep the punch.

Brass fits in the steel base (round thing) while decapping.

Just remember to feel around for the flashole before you hit the punch. Otherwise punch will break.

Lol I had the weirdest dream about reloading. In my dream I was walking into my local home depot store here in Guam, and when i walk in I see a shelf full of Gunpowder for sale $30 per pound! I was so happy I bought bunches of them, but then i woke up lol. Living on Guam, you are lucky to find anyone selling gunpowder. Right now my supply of gunpowder is literally gone, and I can't find anyone who is selling. Only way I might get gunpowder is to have 20mm rounds shipped to me full of gunpowder. All I have to do is remove the projectile and I have half a pound of gunpowder per 20mm.

I get pissed off at the lbs of powder for $30.

You can't get anything shipped... not sure of all the regulations there.

I see a company on the interwebs called L&L reloading & ammunition
AddressAdelup, Guam
96922-1401
Phone Number(671) 477-8190

maybe they could help you out some how...

Idk seems you should be able to work something out with some powder manufacturer or dealer or something

I'm working on getting a FFL 06 here on Guam, but I'm just doing my research first. Not sure if I gotta pay the ITAR fees of $2250 a year.

Anyways yeah L&L Reloading is where I get my powder, but at $64 per pound it's not worth it. Also all they have is Winchester 231, no rifle powders. It's not even in a container just in a ziplock bag so I can't be sure if it is 1lb.

There are some commercial reloaders here that get the powder shipped via Freight Forwarder at 99lbs per shipment. I'm trying to figure this out. I even contacted Hodgons directly to see if I could be a dealer of their gunpowder when i get my FFL and business license. They told me I could use a freight forwarder, and they can sell me their powder in bulk prices to offset the price. I tried a lot of forwarding companies in Guam, and they told me it would cost and arm and a leg to do it. So I'm not really sure how the commercial reloaders in Guam manage to get their powder.

On another topic
I found out using St. Ives lotion works great as an alternative to Lee's case lube.

jeffery 91,

I've used Neutragena Body Emulsion Intensive Therapeutic Lotion one time when I needed to size some

223 cases one time, it has a fairly high lanolan content. Was a little more difficult to get the cases cleaned though.

YMMV sdshooter............

P S Sizes a couple hundred that way without a stuck case, however I plan ahead better now so I've got plenty of case

on hand now. Look up the thread "Case Lube for Cheap Bastards" They use 2 oz. of pure lanolan and 12 oz. of

Isopropal Alcohol mixed.

Thanks for that tip! I'm literally out of Lee sizing lube so I was using lotion I had on hand. It was not that effective, but it does work.

On another topic about Gun Powder.
Met a new friend today, his name is Greg and he has been reloading on Guam for 40 years. This guy is now my favorite friend. Not only did he give me some tips, he also gave me the secret to getting gunpowder shipped to Guam.

I was told to call Triple BBB a freight forwarder on Guam, and I was told I could bring in 99lbs of Gunpowder if it was shipped in a specific way. Not only did Greg save me from spending $64 a lb of powder, he also made my Dream come true (a couple posts up).
I'm now in the process of getting 99lbs of powder shipped from WA Murphy who I was told knows how to package gunpowder to Guam. The total cost of 99lbs of powder shipped to Guam is $1970, includes hazmat, shipping, and powder. That's almost $20 shipped per pound which is a unbelievable deal here in Guam :)

glad you found a "cheaper" source for powder.

Wouldn't it be possible for you to do a group buy with your friend so you wouldn't have to buy 99lbs of powder?

I wouldn't mind having 99 lbs of powder but i sure as heck wouldn't want to fork over all that loot right now.

That is a good idea, I'll post a craigslist ad. I dont know any "small" reloaders on Guam. Only ones I know are commercial reloaders that go thru 99lbs of powder in a few days from their automatic reloading machines (2000rds an hr)

Alright finally made my order, and got everything updated with my freight forwarder. The total cost for shipping is $450, which is not bad considering the amount of powder I purchased. I did make a deal with a couple people here on Guam, and I ended up ordering 70lbs of powder for myself, and 29lbs for them. I might aswell get primers too, but it may take a while to get to Guam since primers cant ship with gunpowder. So I'm expecting my primers to arrive in 2-5 months.

88lbs of Winchester 231
11lbs of Hodgons 223
20K Winchester Large Pistol primers
20K Winchester Small Rifle primers

On another topic, I was thinking about ordering WC867 and WC872 powder since it was cheap. At only $39 per 8lb. I know it's for .50 only, but is there any other applications for it?
