I love 27 grains of varget with 55g in my .223. However as everyone knows varget won't work well in my new progressive powder meter. Can I get some good ball type powder load suggestions as a replacement plz?

There are some reloader powders that work well. reloader 15 is pretty popular. and I think they have some newer ones like 17 or 19 that are supposed to be great.

TAC is a great powder, especially for heavier bullets.

Gobs of highpower shooters load varget on progressive presses. Metering is HIGHLY overrated.

My favorite powder is Benchmark but I also use BL-C2 for .223. Have a lb of CFE 223 but have not used any yet, others swear by H-335. Benchmark burns the cleanest to me and gives me the tightest groups

X3 - Great powder for 53gn, 55gn, and 60gn bullets! H335 is more accurate but you get better velocity out of CFE223.

Alliant Power Pro Varmint

It's a new ball powder that is more than awesome in 5.56 loads, it burns just a little faster than Varget(think RE-12) but still works great with the heavier bullets.

AA2520. It is almost the same as varget on the burn rate charts, but I think it is just a touch faster. I have switched to it in my garands and if time and weather ever allow, I'm going to run a bunch of tests loads I have through my garand and see what numbers they produce. I attempted to work up loads with the 2520 last year and found that the 2520 produced slightly better accuracy then 4064 (the most accurate powder in my garands) and metered like water compared to 4064. Of course, I didn't chrono those loads.

If you like the slower burn rate of varget, the 2520 should work well. 2520 is a ball powder.

For 55 grain bullets, it is too slow. You will get better performance with something faster, probably using less. H322 works fine for 53s, should be good with 55s.
Water vapor IS a gas.

H322 works great for me. Its a stick powder like Varget but a smaller kernel.

I came to post this...

This is the powder I use to launch my 75 gr bullets...I do chrono the loads and this powder gets me some speed out of the 75 Horn OTMs. Accurate to boot... Meters well...

Getting the same accuracy and velocities (as Varget) with out locking up the powder bar...

Have fun...shoot often...

Lots of powder options out there for your 55 gr pills...

But useless if you are using a 4 MOA bullet. What type/brand of bullet are you using?

+1 on this powder using heavier bullets. I get 2785 FPS with an 18 inch barrel...

I get the best accuracy with AA2230 and 55's, but I usually load them with TAC because it works well for 69 and 75 grainers as well.
