Anyone have any experience (good/bad) with the Speer 70gr. .224 soft point bullet? I picked up a box to load up and was just curious to know other peoples experience with this bullet. I only have experience with their 170gr flat point 30-30 and the old round nose 100gr .243 bullet.

Thanks

I have posted multiple times over the years as to how deadly this bullet is on Florida deer. I load this bullet using 26.0grs W-748 with a COAL of 2.260". Feeds fine, no issues.

In fact, I have a box in my hand right now that I brought to work for a co-worker. They shoot great out of his Ruger 77 and another co-worker uses them for hunting in his Mini-14.

ETA: I use them in a 20" Bushmaster AR15...

This is to funny. I just finished loading the exact same load as yours. 26.0gr of W748 and 2.255 OAL.

I was wanting a bullet that could be shot out of both my 5.56/.223 rifles as one is 1:9" and the other is 1:7". The 69gr SMK work well out of both but I was wanting something different. Thanks for the reply

I've not put forth much effort as far as getting serious about the accuracy of the load, so with that said, they group in the 1.50" to 1.75" range at 100 yards... more than good enough for my hunting needs. Of the 5 or so deer I've taken, longest shot being perhaps 75-100 yards, all but one I believe have been pass-through shots.

I won't be hunting deer with these but I am wanting them for general shooting and varmint hunting.
