Not aware of any molds for pellets. They are swagged rather than cast. As thin as the skirts are on them, especially the .177 caliber ones, I don't know that you could get the lead to flow well enough to fill out the cavity without adding tin. With tin the alloy is harder and then it is less likely the skirt of the pellet would expand enough to properly seal the barrel when fired.
You would probably have better luck trying to cast round balls for them even though the accuracy wouldn't be as good as pure lead pellets. |

That thing looks painfully slow! Not to mention he's heating the lead with a torch.... from my understanding that's bad juju as it can produce lead vapor because of the high surface temperature the torch can produce. I can understand the desire to make your own, but I can order 1000 pellets online for 10 dollars, and I'll probably have them delivered to my doorstep before someone could make 500 of those handmade deals. Cool idea... but needs refinement. |

That pellet maker is pretty ingenious. As others have said, it would be really slow to use to make your own. Having a separate pot of lead that is melted and then just ladle a small amount into the mold/swager may speed it up some.
For the cost and the time I think a person would better off stock piling pellets. In a SHTF situation you probably wouldn't be using an air gun for just plinking, rather for hunting small game. Seems a 1000 pellets would last a really long time in that scenario. |
