I'm wanting to load 140gr FTX in my 357 and am wondering if the flex tip causes any issues. I use a Lee breech lock press and have never loaded any bullets of this type before.

Any help would be great.

Hornady sells seater plugs for FTX bullets for their dies. If you're using dies from anyone else, you'll have to get a custom seater plug made by the diemaker.

Is the hornady die compatible with the Lee press?

99.9% of dies have a 7/8-14 thread, as do 99.9% of presses. Yes.

I read somewhere that on the .357 leverevolution ammo (loaded with the ftx projectile) uses a slightly shorter case than standard to keep OAL down below max.  If you plan on crimping into the cannelure I would keep that in mind.

IIRC, a friend said that the 45-70 did as well.

So...would loading the 357 FTX bullets into 38spl+p be too short or would that work?

Call hornady and ask or check the new Hornady manual.

My biggest fear is cutting a bunch of brass for the FTXs and then later on using the same casings that will be too short for regular HP bullets.

Buy some plastic ammo boxes and mark them as shortened for FTX. Only other solution is reducing the load slightly if that happens.

Hornady 8 does not list the 140 gr FTX in 38 Special.

I haven't looked yet, but am not surprised. I was mearly referencing the case length. As opposed to trimming 357 cases short to make it to spec on the reloading data
