Used a pound of 8208 so far. Not shot any thing loaded yet...... Impressed enough to buy eight pound jug of 8208, ,temperature insensitive, meters well. Am building a ladder starting at 22.5 grains, ending at 25.8 grains in 3/10th increments. Each increment having 50 rounds each. Using once fired brass that needs annealing, crimps removed and usual brass prep. About 2/3rds done with loaded ladder.  I didn't realize the scope of my project in relation to my time constraints given between August through end of year. So, having said that to say this. Will be lucky if I get to start testing before Thanksgiving.

Bullets used are Armscor 55 grain..... yes, I know. Not a choice bullet. I wanted a chance for the powder to shine and not the bullet. I shoot more 55 grain Armscor than anything else. You'd think living between MidwaymailorderUSA and Graff & Son, I'd be able to get Hornady 55 grain fmj's. Not a chance. Hornady is so plowed under they can't see day light. Talked with factory rep last week regarding 208 Amax. You could feel the pain in her voice over the phone. She, at least.... is ready for a break in demand.

Will post results in detail when I start testing the runs.

I have a couple #'s but have only tried it in 6.8 so far, no .223 testing has been done in a while.

Slow(for me) but very accurate with H-110gr BTHP's, will dig up velocity and charge weight in a bit but it was about the same as Benchmark IIRC.

My BCM Middy seems to love it with  77gr nosler's

Seems to group much better than varget with 75gr hornady's

Measures MUCH better too. I need to do more testing though.

Buy a lb and see how it works.

Charge weight for the 75gr BTHP?

Velocity #'s?

In the chronograph thread this is a good example, if the 8208 load is just as accurate as the Varget load but 200 FPS slower I'm sticking with the varget load, you need a chrono to find out this info.

Smith - how can you be impressed enough to grab 8 lbs when you hadn't shot anything yet.

Research and various reports on the web for starters. Temperature insensitivity the biggest factor. The way it meters will allow set up on turret in progressive mode. No where have I read has any one complained about accuracy of this powder, just the opposite. Another strong clue. IMR 8208 XBR is selling faster than its being stocked on shelves. Graff got in 250, 8lb jugs in one order. I'd be surprised two weeks later if a jug was left in the warehouse.

Basically I've betted 150 bucks that it will be my last powder for .223. We'll see. If I'm wrong I can tell everyone who boasts up 8208 they're full of shit

Ok - so now I am in for yet another powder.  Scope creep is an issue with this hobby

With my limited testing in my 223 AR, I have shot my best groups with IMR-8208, Win brass, Sierra 69 gr BTHP's and Rem 7 1/2's.

Better than Varget and RE-15 in my rifle, and IMR-8208 measures very well from a PM.

What were the groups if I may ask?

6.8SPC-II
18" Shilen 1:11 4 groove barrel
110gr H-BTHP's w/c
IMR 8208 XBR test loads

charge weight
29.5gr––––-30.0––––-30.5––––-31.0––––-31.5––––-32.0
avg vel. 5 shots
2511––––-2550––––-2588––––-2630––––-2659––––-N/A(don't remember why)
best group was at 31.5gr's (.95" 5 shot group) without any real pressure signs(in MY barrel)

Will do some more testing with 110gr Accubonds soon for accuracy since this powder doesn't give top velocity.

I just finished my new 6.8 upper with a 16" Rainier Ultra Match Shilen 1:11 4 groove ratchet rifling barrel(I like the lighter weight better already), next testing will be with it.

A pic for those that like pic's, nothing fancy just the basics but I like it

Charge weight for the 75gr BTHP?  25.2gr, RP case, rem7 1/2

Velocity #'s? No clue, haven't bought a chronograph yet. It's on my Christmas list

I will test this load out and see what it does for me accuracy and velocity wise, all components will be the same for the test, what COAL did you use? 2.255", 2.260" just so it will be as close to exact as possible?

Im providing this under the assumption that you will work up to this load or already have at some point.

With that being said, COAL was I set the longest to 2.260" (mag length), there was a thread I created a while back about this. I dont have my book in front of me, but most ended up being 2.25-2.24 IIRC

Brass was trimmed to the trim to length in the Lyman book and deburred.

At that point, for me, im starting to see faint ejector/extractor marks on my brass, but it seems to be the most accurate load.

I need to get a chronograph, any cheaper ones that will do a decent job?  I was looking at some on midway earlier.

I loaded up some 8208 under some hornady 52gr BTHPs which i have yet to test.

If it works great, ill buy a 8# container of it.

Just started reloading. I worked up some loads. So far it shoots as good as Black Hills 77 gr at 300yds. . At max load.
Like it better than the Varget, or Tac. Hate the way Varget meters. Just found 2 more lbs.
Very good with 69 gr. at 200yds. I am loading to max now to match the BDC in my Burris XTR.

I posted some 25 WSSM and 308 data here. All groups are 5 shot @ 100 yds.

Scope Creep ?? That ain't the half of  it. Keep composition books for detailed notes is all I can suggest. I tend to get turned around easily and can have 4 or 5 reloading projects going on at a time.

Nice rifle, reloading area and a comfy looking chair

32 grains

Compressed load I am guessing and isn't that pretty close to case capacity?

Already planned for that - I have a binder for each caliber I load in the garage and keep fairly detailed notes.

I have a bunch I need to test/chrono and another one I need to load to test/chrono.

It's a lot of stuff for one guy to drag and of course people love to shoot, but few want to test/develop loads - though they are all too ready to use your hard-earned data.

This is my comparison of BL-C(2) to 8208xbr:

@ 50 yards (only a 1-4 scope )

You can right click and save/open image in new tab to see it bigger.

75 grainer first one

and BLC2 on the left 8208 on the right both with the 77 gr nosler
