I've read that some folks really like this powder for 9mm and the local shop has some cheap. Anyone know of any manuals or online sources that have data for Green Dot in 9x19mm?

Are you sure you don't mean Blue Dot?

Alliant Green Dot powder isn't listed for 9mm in any of my manuals. Only info I have is from an old Hercules Reloaders Guide (1992 version). Alliant bought out Hercules several years ago.
Hercules Green Dot––Win sp primer
115 fmc––4.7 grains––1150 fps––30000 psi––minimum overall length 1.120"
125gr lead––5.2––1165fps––32100 psi––mimimum oal 1.150"
125 fmc––5.2 grains––1150fps––32100 psi––minimum oal 1.150"
147 XTP––3.7 grains––930fps––32200 psi––minimum oal 1.140"
Warning say REDUCE these loads 10% and work up watching for pressure signs. Use this old data at your own risk. As far as Alliant pistol powders for 9mm I like Unique and load data is widely available for it and 9mm. I like to have several powder data sources before I pick out a powder. Blue Dot is used in 9mm but is best used with maximum or near maximum charges.

edited to include the year version of the Hercules Reloading Guide

Alliant Powder has a web site reloading data table for it:
http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipeList.aspx?gtypeid=1

There is a Green Dot powder, right in between burn rates of Red Dot and Blue Dot.

Alliant does not list a load for Green Dot in the 9x19 Luger tables. However, Lyman's #49 (published May 2008) does list Green Dot for some 9mm loads.

- 120 gr LRN, OAL = 1.065", 3.5 - 4.4 gr.

- 120 LSWC, OAL = 1.110", 3.8 - 4.3 gr.

My 1985 version of the Hercules Reloader's Guide lists:

95 grain FMJ with 5.0 grains Green Dot maximum

115 grain FMJ with 4.4 grains Green Dot maximum

124 grain FMJ with 4.2 grains Green Dot maximum

When a manufacture drops a listing it is for a reason!

They have probably changed the makeup and the results may no longer safe to use…

Note that Lyman does not list any loads for jacketed bullets and Green Dot in any of their manuals! Only listing is for cast lead.

I would not force fit a powder just because its on sale. Study the Alliant reloading website and you will find the powders they recommend. Its in their best interest to recommend the widest possible uses for each powder so the fact its not recommended by the manufacturer tells you something.

hello;

have lots of green dot from my skeet shooting days. green dot is a good powder for the 20ga. and 12ga. found some data on green dot for reloading the 9mm that looked good.

tried to load 9mm using this data. NONE of my 3 powder droppers would not even come close to dropping green dot the same. the differences were in excess of +/- .5 grains.

so if you were trying to loading 4.0 grains of green dot is was possilbe to drop 4.5 one time and the next have 3.5 grains in the next case. actually had this happen, not good. the powder droppers are hornady and 2 different c.h.
