Never used AA-2495, but AA-2230 in 223 is one of my favorite powders.
In my area, the 1 pound price is $3 to $4 cheaper than other rifle powders. |

Hornady #7 shows-
start load: 33.1 grains for 2100 fps max load: 40.7 grains for 2500 fps That makes two votes for the lower range of published charge weights. This gun powder is in the same range of burning speeds as the 4895's, and close to AA2230 (slower) and H335 (faster). If someone with Quickload sees this, I would be interested to see the results of an analysis with 43 or 44 grains of AA2495. |

yep sierras has if not mistaken 37.4 to start 40.4 as max as well,seems kinda of a scary powder company that Accurate Arms is listing all there loads so much hotter for all calibers with there powder.

well i took a wwc case and loaded 40 grains of AA2495 and it makes a pretty good full case and you can here it crushing the powder on a 165grn bullet set to a depth of 2.750
 So 40 grains is compressed with a 165 grn bullet set to 2.750 COL

Pay attention to the case manufacturer. Sierra uses FC cases for the 308. FC cases call for a couple grains less powder than Winchester, for example.

i used win cases and at 40 grains it is a crunching compress load.

A compressed load is not necessarily dangerous. A gunpowder that is slow for the bullet weight will permit more powder in the case to the point of overfilling the case and produce low pressures. In this case, AA2495 appears to be a bulky powder that fills the case well before the maximum pressure can be reached. A compressed load can cause a bullet to come unseated if the neck tension is too low.
MoneyMaker - Fill the case slowly with a long drop tube if you have one, or swirl the powder into the case through a funnel. Then pick the case up and tap the rim on the bench to settle the charge, then top it off with one more session of taps, and finally measure the charge weight. I'm curious. |

40 grains was in the neck above the shoulder,just alot of powder as i understand it is a course long grain stick powder but when i used Varget it was not like that as far as i can remember,think i will load up a few starting on the low sierra load side and see what takes place,just gonna have to find some other powders i like and have used alot of like,IMR 4064,IMR 3031,IMR4895,H4895,RE15 if i can locate about 2-3 pounds i will be good for a year,also still want to go get 1k of large rifle and 1k of large pistol primers so i am set for about 2 years of deer loads and casual target shooting.May be getting a 243 win rifle to use as deer rifle here soon,unless they have a tikka or savage 308 in stock.

I'll bet that powder is going to shoot real well at around 40 grains. A case full is a good thing for accuracy generally.

AA 2495 has been very accurate for me with 168 SMK. I used 38.0 and it was very accurate at 100yds. 38.0 may not be enough for longer range since it did not feel very strong but functioned fine in DPMS LR308 24".
