I'm pretty sure there is a thread on it somewhere but basically there are about 8 things they changed it I remember correctly. They also sell a conversion kit to revert it back to the older GSG/HK style. I know the sights are different, the lower receiver, added a rail on top, etc.

Where might these conversion kits be sold?

CDNN has them for $18, not sure on the shipping tho. Or Ebay has them for almost $70 shipped. I highly doubt CDNN will charge $50 shipping so I'd suggest that route. It won't look 100% like the original GSG's but it'll be close.

Here is the link to the full 18 piece kit on CDNN...

You need to upload the image to a host site like imageshack.  Then copy the direct pic link and paste it into the space provided by the  "add image"  button below in the insert tags.

Here are my MP5 plinkers.  The GSG-5 will be converted to an SBR soon (Form 1 went pending on April 9 so I should get the stamp soon).  I will convert the H&K to an SBR as soon as I figure out how to do it –– Umarex doesn't sell a pistol length barrel so I'd have to find a gunsmith who can cut, recrown and thread the barrel for me.

Got a few of my mods in the mail. Still waiting on my gsg5 retro fit, but for now....
http://www.thejessemontana.com/3mod.jpg

-SD front sling loop
-A4 charging handle
-Crayon mod logo
-Dual Mag Clamp
-NCStar Mark III 2-7 Red/Green Illuminated Mil-Dot Scope
-GSG Advanced Folding Stock w/ 4 pos extension/ 3 pos adjustable cheekpiece/ Ambi Sling Loop
-3 Point Wide Tac Sling

*Still waiting to install*

-Full Retro Conversion kit
-Hogue pistol grip

The GSG Advanced folding stock is awesome.

It is solid, comfortable, ZERO wiggle, and folds to fit in a tac bag. I highly recommend it for anyone who feels the original is too short.

On a side note, good luck finding one online, as I believe I literally bought the last one on the internet!
The only GSG version I could find, was for sale at full retail from HKParts.com, so I got it, and when i looked again, they were out of stock, as is everyone else.
They are 100% worth the wait though.

MOSSY 500 Persuader with Choate front pistol grip forend/ Choate Top folding stock and 5 shot stock mounted side saddle
ICS mp5 A4 with all the bells and whussles...

What sort of barrel shroud is that?  Looks thicker than the original.

I received 3 tax stamps for SBRs last month.  They were for an MP5, MP5K and a GSG-5.  I've been having so much shooting the MP5s that I didn't get around to converting the GSG-5 until today.

My GSG-5 started out as a rifle with a 16" barrel and fake supressor/shroud.  I ordered the 9" barrel (for a GSG-5-P pistol) from ATI last week and it arrived today via UPS.  I then went to my local gun store where they happened to have a Gemtech 3-lug adapter and picked one up.  Swapping out the barrel was pretty straightforward thanks to detailed instuctions I found on YouTube.

Anyway, here's the GSG-5 SBR along with its big sister, my Dakota Tactical D54P-N SBR:

Here's a closeup of the Gemtech GSG-5-P 3-Lug Navy Adapter:

I got mine today (off layaway) , shocked it was at the gun store. They usually don't carry things like this but I picked it up . Shocked how heavy it is . and slightly disappointed it came with only 1 mag
I ordered the collapsible stock from 1 place and 3 mags from brownells .

Here is mine, bought it off a guy that originally bought it in July of 09, still had it in the box and never put the stock on it, and never fired it.
I still haven't decided what way to go with it, may leave it stock for now.

I found this new GSG-5SD collecting dust at a local shop.  Brand new, never fired.  I"ve done several mods that aren't apparent on the surface.

Charge handle buffer
Changed out all the screws and blue loctite on every connection
HK take down pins
Foam filled the stock
Magpul rail and AFG after I milled out the handguard to accept the rail
So far I've put close to 500 rounds through it without a single hickup.  A very fun gun.

Yeah Chris!... it was very simple!  And it looks WAY more like an MP5 now.  And because it's the LW, it's super light, so I can use it for my club competitions (steel chicken silhouette match that is xD)

I have the screw upgrade, slip on rubber grip, and HK push pins coming in too shortly.

Shot it 3 times so far, it's been nearly flawless (no problems at all with recommended ammo) and multiple RO's come up to me making sure I have paperwork for the suppressor lmao.

Mine...

all HK push pins, with MP5 Handguards/Stock, ICS lower, and also with ICS stock

**need to redo the lower next them they are on sale, slight blowout (might try a JB weld patch)

Tried HK mag clamp but it was really tight messed up feeding

Would like to add a rear drum, and the buffer mod.

i have the conversion kit as well on my gsg522-pk. it's odd, but i find it's more loose than the original lower kit.  there's not any side to side movement, but front to back there is.  it's like the pin holes were larger on the original version or something. but assembly was easy and very straight forward.  i think there was one tweak where there's one less screw when going back to the gsg5 kit. if i recall, it was when working on the fore-end.

Thats odd... I literally had the opposite experience.  I was able to gt the original lower tighter than the 522 lower.

I joined the club a few days before new year's (my birthday) when my wife gave the go-ahead for the purchase. :) It's got a sightpoint green dot reflex sitting on the rail, works pretty well in full daylight.

It occasioned something that hasn't happened for several years: my Dad and I actually went to the range together to try it out. We put about 250 rds of Aguila supermax HV through it, until the below occurred.

Now, I knew it was dirty ammo, because it was leaving little smoke trails all the way out to its target at 75 yds. This happened when brass got stuck in the breach and the extractor tore the primer cap off. Used the plastic red "clear" tab to pull the jammed brass casing out of the breach, finished the mag and went home to a 2 hour cleaning job. MAN that ammo is dirty. Gonna try some CCI mini-mags next. From all I read, they're the best for this rifle. We'll see. Might try the tacticals too.
