I am buying my groomsmen Mini-Grips as a present, but hate the cheap scales that come with them. I personally have the factory 556-1 model and love it.

Are there any other good quality replacement scales that I should look into, or just buy them all the 556-1? The blade steel isn't a huge concern.

Thanks

All the replacement scales I saw when I was looking were $80+. Not going to spend more than the knife cost.

Depends on how much OP likes his groomsmen.

Put AWT scales on my Ritter mini grip. It's by far one of my favorite knives. As mentioned above, the cost will certainly add up with multiple sets of knives.

I know scales cost decent money, but it ends up being close to the cost of the 556-1 anyways.

Budget is less than $200 each so all these options work.

First thing: yes, upgrade the knives. Money shouldn't be an issue. They are taking part in such a joyous occasion they deserve the best.

Second thing: I volunteer as groomsman

Not certain if the mini grips in m390 are still available at knifeworks, but it's a significant step up in steel and after the awt scales comes in right around $200. Plus you can get them laser engraved.

Already planned on getting them engraved

So it looks like I need to check out the AWT scales.

Maybe see if DLT will cut you a deal if you bulk buy their custom made regular size grip?  Engraving comes with their knives.

You could get the knives custom made from Benchmade:

http://customknife.benchmade.com/knives/

Pick your steel, blade shape, blade color, grip material, grip color, engraving, etc.

$180 for 154cm w/ G10 scales w/o engraving.  Call Benchmade; they might give you a discount on custom knives if you but multiples.

That's kind of cool if you want to play pimp my Barrage, but it's disappointing that they don't have more choices.
They need to add the Stryker and the Sequal.

Presumably they offer what they make in the highest volumes and what is likely to stay in production long-term to justify the expense of developing all the different options.
I am mildly surprised they don't offer the 940/943 in the custom line.

They don't even make the Sequel anymore.

That makes sense.
Didn't know they dropped the sequel.
I guess what I was getting at was to have a few options for the frame/grip shape as well as the blade would be nice.

The Stryker and Sequel have both been discontinued completely.
