Hey guys, I am attempting my hand at making knives with the take away method. And I am using a file jig. Is there anyone here that can explain to me HOW one can achieve a full flat grind (blade to spine) by using this jig? I've done a few different style blades, but the most I've been able to file is about a 1/2" wide bevel.
Any help is appreciated thank you!

Never used a jig but a full flat grind using files is gonna be a tedious process. How thick is the steel? Is a half grind not enough to make it a usable blade?

When I grind with a machine it's all about feel. Grind a few passes, visually inspect, and repeat. After a while you know what part of the knife you are grinding by the feel and pressure.

THe steel I've used so far is O1 tool steel. And it was 3/16" thick. It's not that the grind isn't good enough, I just want to know HOW one can achieve it. I know if I had a belt sander I could do more (yeah yeah I know, be poor somewhere else) the file jig is what I have right now.
