I have a Benchmade AFO which is a little too big for EDC. Can anyone recommend a compact Benchmade or Spyderco knife for EDC?
Thanks! |

Sort of depends on what you want, what you like, etc.
Off the top, for me: Spyderco PM2, Delica 4 (ffg), or Manix 2 FRN FFG. |

Thanks--I like the PM2. It was on my list. I am looking for something w/ a narrow profile so I can keep clipped in my pocket and still get my hand in/out.

Benchmade Options (2" - 3" blades) The Mini Griptilian has a strong following, and you can get them with G10 scales and better (than 440C) steel now.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2. Perfection in a folder.
I have a PM2, the Bradley has just as much blade, and is thinner and more refined. |

View Quote i'll second this. if you can find a gayle bradley advocate in stock anywhere, that's even slimmer. hard to tell it's in your pocket tbh. eta: in stock here fwiw, the photo on that site has more bronze looking scales than what you'll get. here's a photo of mine: here's how the thickness compares to a kershaw leek, which is one of the thinnest knives i've carried (leek on the left, advocate on the right): and just realized i've got my leek set up for tip down carry like some sort of caveman. |

thanks for the advice and pics. checking out the gayle bradley. looks like a very nice knife.

I prefer benchmade over spydefco for the most part. The 940 series sounds like it would fit your needs nicely.

I just got a Delica 4 in ZDP-189 and that mates up with my PM II (S110v) and Endura 4 (VG-10.)
My only Benchmade is a AFO 9000S, from the mid 90s. Chris |

I love the PM2, but I just got an email from Spyderco that talked about the new PM3 which is smaller than the 2. Just about perfect size.

Thanks, everyone. Tons of options. As always, appreciate the advice. I am going to check out a few this weekend. I am eligible for Pro Deals on both Benchmade and Spyderco so I might have to buy more than one.
Cheers. |

The Benchmade 940 is great. I would also look at the ZT 0450, mine has been fantastic.

I would definitely recommend the Benchmade 940. Best edc knife I've had.

I'm a Benchmade whore, but people love their Spydercos too. Can't go wrong with either.
For Benchmade, check out a Mini Griptillian. If you want super slim and forget it's in your pocket, try a 530/531. |

If you're checking out the Para2 give serious consideration to the Sage 5 - I just got one and love it!
Nice, grippy carbon fiber scales are super comfortable and pocket friendly. Same compression lock as the PM2. Also - the Para 3 was just released last month. Hard to find but they'll be readily available in the coming months. But I highly recommend checking out the Sage 5 |

And if you want slim - another I have to recommend is the Emerson A100 and mini A100. Awesome knives. |

Spyderco all the way for me. Haven't picked up any of the PM series yet, but with all the positive feedback I see on them, it's just a matter of time.
I've carried one Spyderco or another ever since about 1990, and I still have the first two I ever bought - a stainless Endura II and a Delica Clipit. The EII went to Iraq and Afghanistan with me, and I still rotate it into my EDC lineup now and then. Great knives, and absolutely awesome people to deal with. |

I have a pretty good collection of spydies. Pm2's. Sages, etc. I carry a delica every day at work. When I get home, 90% of the time I grab my manix 2 lightweight. It's soo light, has a great clip,it's comfortable in the pocket and the blade shape rocks. I know people complain about the lack of liners, but how strong does it need to be for regular edc. 99% of the time you're just opening packages and cutting paper.

A 940/943 disappears in the pocket better than any other knife with a blade that long. Its shape is just a bit more pocket friendly than spyderco.

BM 940.
Once you get used to the speed and ease in one handed open/closeing of a properly tuned axis lock, you will not go back. |
|
[#38]
Benchmade 551. Nothing gets even close to the Axis lock in terms of speed to open AND close.
I've had mine ten years and loved it so much, I bought the 551-1 with the fancy 20cv metal and G10. |

Are ZTs out of the question?
Handled a ZT 0220 at the Gunshow yesterday. Slickest flipped I've ever handled. My XM-18 arrived the same day. It will never be as smooth as that 0220 |
