I vaguely remember EK being bought out and promises of new knives, then forgot all about it. Has anybody got one? I'm headed to Smokey Mountain Knife Works on vacation and I make it a point to buy a knife every time I go down there. If this is as good as it looks it might be the one I pick this year.

Has anybody even checked one out at a shop?

I guess I'll make a review when I get one then.

They sure look good in photos. If they make a D2 or stainless version, I'll buy one. I am holding out for now though

The guys on Blade forums in the Becker section seem to like them.

1095 Cro-van is good isn't it?

Absolutely! I just like the looks of the old polished out EKs. A lot of them were carbon steel. Guess I would just like a slightly modern take on an EK

There's this one too

I have a Ka-Bar EK44 and a Ka-Bar EK45. I have several Ek knives made in Richmond, VA, and a couple made in Effingham, Ill from the Blackjack era. I don't have any from Hamden, CT, Miami, FL, or St. Augustine, FL.

The EK45 (Bowie) seems like it would be more practical than the EK44 (Dagger). The point on my 44 is ground off center. They are made from the same 1095Cro-Van the Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife is made from (aka 50100/170-06 Sharon Steel/Carbon V when Camillus made SRKs for CS; similar to O1) and should perform like a Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife with a full width tang. HRC is 56 - 58. I like em. I think you should get one.

I don't have any daggers though and thought this would be a good one.

Well, if a dagger is what you want, then I think an EK43 or EK44 would be a good choice, especially if you can look it over first.

What's the difference between the 43 and 44? They seem exactly alike.

Mine will be here Wednesday. I've wanted an Ek knife since being a kid, and I ran across the Spartan Knives version at a local shop the other day so I did a quick Google search and was reminded that Ka-Bar had bought them out. I like 1095 and didn't want to pay extra for S30V, but I'd like G10 scales. I've always liked the paracord wrapped Ek knives too.

The 43 is edge and a half (the bottom edge is full length and top edge only comes back half way down the blade), the 44 is full double edge top and bottom, and the 45 is a clip point Bowie. The handles are durable and serviceable but could be removed and replaced with para-cord, maple, micarta, or other handle material of your choice. Someone could probably make some money making upscale replacement handle slabs for these.

I have an EK.

It's very pointy.

The second knife I ever bought for myself back in the late 80's early 90's was a stainless Ek bowie with brass guard, oak handle held on by brass X head bolts, with OD green nylon web sheath with a Made in Richmond, VA tag. It is a beautiful knife that I still have. I think I paid $75 for it.
