If you are brave, take it apart and take a look at the spring and carrying slide (the part that the blade rides on) see if the springs are worn out. Maybe there is no enough tension left in the spring to propel it to the locked position.

Oh geez.  I was just thinking about buying one. .

From what I've read I think you can remove the glass breaker and that hole in the handle will allow you to lube/blow air out through there.  Might try that?

I haven't had any problems with mine yet but I've heard of people filling it up with lighter fluid and shaking it up to loosen gunk inside and then letting it drain/dry.

I've considered getting an Ultratech, but all the customer service woes I've seen on arfcom has scared me off.

Use Naptha to clean out the knife.  Squirt it in there, shake it around and let it dry.  You do not want a lot of oil in there.  Too much oil tends to gum it up.

Good luck.

How are you deploying the knife?  Blade down or up?  Any wrist movement?  You can buy the screw device from blade hq.

It happens.  Some of my Ultratechs do the same thing.  They are carried.  Once in a while they will fail to lock in, but a flick of the wrist locks it out.  Very light lube is fine, but you don't want to cause problems by attracting lint.  Worse that I have seen is the actuator lock tab is broken due to bad tempering or material.  That would mean that it fails for every deployment.  I have not seen this on the Scarab models due to two spring system.  Get a RMA and send it back.

You can also search the microholics.org forum.  A lot more knowledge there.
