i remember LaRue had this knife for sale for a while, but it seems they don't have it anymore. Anybody if they'll ever bring it back ?

IIRC it was a one-off run.

Seriously, I do not know why they don't become even more vertically integrated and produce their own blade. Seems like a no brainier to me.

My understanding it they were made by a custom maker for Larue. If someone can recall the maker you can order something similar.

All depends upon the heat treat gentleman. I believe Randalls are made out of a 440B equivalent, and yet there stainless is good to go.
I wouldn't be put off by a properly treated 440C blade. 1095 is cheap steel, yet still one of the best IMO. |

Over the last decade, we've been too busy ... plus everytime I landed a nice deal on a good Haas that I bought to make the knives with, the guys scarf it up to make some new mount. And now we have 80 or 90 Haases and still none running the knife. Just hasn't been in the cards. Some day. |

I'm no fanboy, but I've never had any gear as bulletproof as the m68 Larue mount that I had. If Mark designed a hard use folder, I'd be first in line.

LaRue knife story ...
Chuck Karwan did a nice little write-up in Tactical Knife magazine. I should still have a copy somewhere. Anyhow, it's about 2005 or so, Chuck heard about the knife, came by our Shotshow booth, and took a look. He handled it and said looks good adding the chorl was just right. Said his team was in a torrential downpour in Cambodia (?), and they had a VC tracker ghosting them some distance back. Rain started coming down in buckets, so while they holed up and waited, he sent one of the guys back to see if tracker holed up too. Chuck's guy found tracker huddled under his poncho, so he snuck up on him and buried a Randall #1 straight down in the top of his head. Now here's where the fun starts. He could not extract the knife from the skull it was buried in. Lots of rain slick blood, no amount of pulling would do it. He finally went back to the team, got a sub-gun, used it to shoot tracker's skull into pieces, allowing him to retrieve his Randall. Moral of the story, Chuck said a chorl needs to be big enough to get a big finger in front for pulling. He paused and pointed at the butt of the knife and said "this is the skull cracker", then he pointed at the chorl and said "and this is the skull extractor". RIP Chuck.
