I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I even made two Glock knives slice paper, after using a strop for about 5 minutes.

I have one and I use it everyday on my razor before I shave.  It's perfect for that, but it certainly doesn't replace a good sharpening system for my knives.

Your poll is biased.

I have a strop, but it's part of my sharpening system.

Poll is incomplete. A strop is a final step, not a replacement for a sharpening system. I use a strop as the final step when sharpening any knife or razor blade. Before the strop I might use stones, Lansky, or free-hand on a belt grinder. More and more it's belt-grinder and then strop (I'm a hobby knifemaker)

This, a strop is of no use when a blade has been chipped or folded over.

I have multiple strops, but they are part of the deal, not the whole deal.

I make them and sell them to some UK deer stalkers - the ones I make are about 2 foot long by 3" to 4" wide & have a handle on one end, with leather on both side (rough/smooth)

As others have said though, they PART of the overall method of sharpening a knife/blade

I use several specialist knives for my leather cutting jobs.
Sharpening stones are very very rarely used on these knives, as once the edge has been set correctly on a stone, the strop then takes over the job of keeping the edge sharp.

Best results are obtained when you use jewellers rouge on the strop

This seems to be correct so far.

I clicked option #1 but I don't necessarily prefer it over a sharpening system, which would include the mousepad+sandpaper convexing that is used before the strop.  I use the Spyderco Sharpmaker for some knives and see a Wicked Edge System in my future.  Strops are great though.

For use after I set the edges and to keep them up.

Trying to reprofile high wear resistant steel would be insane

I use them to clean up/polish edges.  I use a guided sharpening system to set the edge.

In my case, it's sort of a "use the right tool for the task" situation.

I've been pretty happy with the results from my work sharp.  Maybe I could strop it a little sharper, but how much time would it take?

I use a Edge Pro Apex with Chosera stones. To do routine upkeep I'll start with a 1000 grit, then a 5000 and finish my knife off with a 10,000 grit stone. Will a strop get it any sharper? If it will what strop is recommended? Thanks

This.

I strop more often than I use my other sharpening tools, but don't "prefer it."

I have one I made a few years ago and use it regularly. They are awesome.
