Going off to school. Need something pretty well rounded in terms of application with a good blade. Nothing unreasonably heavy .

Love to hear your suggestions. thanks ahead

Wow...can you even find a multitool for OVER $150?  I have had really good luck with a few.  For all around general purpose stuff I like my Gerber MP600 and my Leatherman Wave.  For bigger tasks I like the SOG.  For something you can tote around easily the Leathermam Skeletool is pretty good.  With that price in mind you could get a few and see what works best for you and sell off the others.

For that price, you can buy like two, and sell which one you don't like.

SOGs are good, but I've been using my Leatherman Wave for years.

Leatherman MUT, but you'll be supporting the Democratic Party, apparently.

Since I have absolutely no idea what this will be used for I will give a few suggestions based on use.

Around the house/dorm room: Leatherman Wave or Victorinox Super Tinker

Camping/Hiking: Victorinox Hiker or Victorinox Farmer or Leatherman Sidekick

Everyday pocket multitool: Victorinox Small Tinker (My favorite multitool ever) or Wenger Apprentice or Leatherman Micra

Since you are going off to school these tool suggestions are based on utility and social friendliness. Most people wont even bat an eye when they see a swiss army knife, because hey, boy scouts use it. Most people also consider a leatherman as a tool, rather than a knife.

Edit: Oh they are all also very affordable and inexpensive. The Leatherman wave is by far the most expensive at around $85. Most hover around the $25 area.

Buy it used or off Amazon and under cut the Bastards. Tim Leatherman hasn't seen a cent from my three waves.
