First post in blade forum. Go easy on me

A very good friend of mine is leaving the the corporate world to take a job managing technical sales team and warehouse (in Texas).

I'd like to get him a few parting gifts and I thought one would be a nice knife he could use in the field / warehouse for whatever.  It will get used for who knows what; but will be used.

Can you guys help me pick something in the $100 +/- range and tell me why?  My thoughts:

- folder: for easy carry, not too big of a blade.  Thin and light would be good.
- doesn't scream "tactical":  this is for utility purposes in business environment. As long as it doesn't scream "operator" i think we're good.
- rust resistant:  he will be near the coast
- blade: help?  Like a million types of points and edges, I have no idea
- where to buy: help?

In my very limited knowledge my first inclination is a mini griptillian.   I could be way off though.  I'm happy to spend less but this is a good friend and I'd like to get him a good knife.

Thanks for your help.

A spyderco  delica or endura might fit the bill.

This one is a wee bit tactical

Nothing wrong with the mini grip, of course, that is a fine knife

Thanks. What do you like or prefer about the spyderco?

For under $100 check out the the Spyderco Manix 2

For a little over $100 check out the ZT 0566. It is a beast of a knife for the money, really well made and with awesome blade steel (ELMAX).

personally, I prefer the Spyderco "hole" for opening knives instead of the stud Benchmade uses. Also, the Wave models open (if you want) when you pull them out of the pocket.

However, that is a personal preference. The Benchmade Mini Grip is a fine knife. I prefer the half serrated blade, but it's harder to sharpen. The plain 556 is a nice, easy-to-sharpen knife. I prefer the satin blade over the painted blade.

You might toss in a Lansky blade medic while you're at it. Lansky

My current office EDC is a Spyderco Delica 4 FFG.  It's a great, light EDC.  VG10 SS holds an edge very nicely.  It is available in various colors as well as orange and black for right around $60 delivered.

If you don't mind going a little over budget, you can also get him a Spyderco Sharpmaker to maintain the edge...

Another vote for the Spyderco Delica. With the blade being under 3" and manual opening, you should have no issues with city/state laws. Good steel, reasonable price and offered in a verity of colors. I work in a similar environment. We constantly have clients, sales, couriers, etc. walking around the floor, all types of people. I've gotten a few compliments about my blue Delica 4, even from women.

I own a Delica and Endura.

I feel a better choice will be the Spyderco Chaparral.

It's thin and light. And about the size of the Delica.

The Carbon Fiber scales add a touch of class. But this knife is a great slicer.

It can be had for ~ $100 on eBay.

Or get a new one for $10 more. I have been happy with mine, times I wish the blade wasn't so large for ease of use on some tasks but am happy.

kershawn knockout - all day, every day, and twice on Sunday.  carries MUCh better then a ZT0350.

For the money, i just don't think you can do better.  Assisted, love the thumb stud and especially the flipper.  RAZOR sharp out of the box.  US made.  lifetime warranty.  looks great, feels great, performs great.

if it had a little more texture and a little jimping on the spine, i would call it the PERFECT all around folder.
