I'm looking for a solid all around fixed blade and have pretty much settled on the KA-BAR Becker BK7. They're going for around $75 and seem like the best knife for the $.

I looked at the Esee 6 and Rat 7 but both are more expensive / don't look like they provide much more for the additional $.

Are there any others I'm missing /  should be considering?

Thanks in advance.

Step up to the bk9 you will be glad you did. Also the new bk10 crewman is the new sheriff in town.

ESEE comes with a life time no questions asked warranty. It doesn't matter if you send it back torch cut they'll replace it.

New in town, but I don't think the Sheriff has been replaced.

I have the BK7 and it is plenty big.  Actually too big for some tasks.  I think the 9 would be like a machete .  My favorite is an ESEE 3.

Just the opposite for me. After using and carrying both, what seems like it should be a small difference is a huge one. BK7 for me. I don't see the BK9 doing anything for me that the BK7 couldn't do.

Both are great knives by the way. You can go wrong either way.

Well dang... you had to go and post a BK2... see now that's just the most bombproof non-busse knife i've ever handled. That thing could be used to pry a school bus off of a volvo then hack the door off and rescue the hot blonde in the passenger seat... it's a crowbar with a cutting edge. LOVE IT

Nice knife there!   Lemme guess - mustard treatment for the swirl and vinegar for a patina?  That thing is sweet!

Im in the same boat. I hVe been going back and forth in my head and will probably buy both bk9 and bk7 but right now I can only have one. Which one is more useful the bk7 or the bk9?

Blade is just shy of 8"

Here's the thing with Becker. For the price, there is NO better blade if you are looking for a hard use knife. Nothing out there is stronger than Becker's 1095 CroVan until you get significantly more expensive. They don't have the best handles, and the sheath quality is mediocre but usable. You can easily replace both so that' not a big deal to me.

If you are on a budget, there are only 2 companies that i look at, Becker and Condor. I don't usually do budget knives, but those two companies make knives that you can beat to death and not feel bad about it.

Personally, i prefer Busse, Swamp Rat knives and Scrapyard knives over pretty much ANYTHING for hard use, but they cost at least 50-60% more than a Becker.
