Resurrecting the thread... my decision is as follows:

Emerson CQC-8BT as the folder.
Chris Reeve Pacific as the fixed.

That should just about do it, I think. If he doesn't like one or can't use one, I guess I'll "hold" it for him.

Thanks for all the help... now to go about acquiring ahead of his September grad date.

Not everyone is a fan of Emerson folders. I don't care for the gimicky opening style, at all.

Randall Made , on the other hand, is beauty, art, and ruggedness in one.

You probably know but for everyones info you dont have to use the Wave at all when you open the knives. Most of the time I open mine with the thumb disc.

Randalls are very nice, I wish I owned one. Perhaps as a retirement gift for myself one day.

How about a Blackjack knife?

Nice knives, but too late. I wanted something a little less "shiny" for sure. I want him to use these things. Those Blackjacks are something he'd want to keep shiny I'm sure.

I recently discovered Blackjack knives, the USA made ones anyway. I was aware of their imported Chinese stuff but the Classic Blades line (US made) are fantastic knives. I'm doing my bit to spread the word.

They do look really nice. I want his stuff to be low profile though.

One of mine that I bought used, has a vinegar etch pattern on the blade.

The top one, both are Blackjack 125s, the lower one is stained with deer blood.

As far as I know they get a Chris Reeve knife when they graduate the Q-course. All my 18 series buddies have them.

Just get him a nice folder like an Emerson or an Ox Forge

Funny how he responded with his final choices at the top of the page, and people are still recommending stuff.

Busse and ESEE for fixed blade.

Benchmade is hard to deny for either format.

Shit. Well, he'll have a nice engraved Pacific (similar to the Yarborough) to replace his issued knife then, or he could just keep the Pacific and give me his!

He'll definitely get use out of the CQC-8 though.

Both knives are in process. I'll post pics when I get them.

He is not getting a Yarborough. The SF in the title of this thread is confusing people who are not reading the first post. SF stands for Special Forces, aka "Green Berets" who are issued the Yarborough. Navy SEALs, Rangers, and others who are part of SOCOM are Special Operations Forces not Special Forces.

Thanks, title corrected. He will be an Air Force CCT.

Not sure what the proper generic term for tier 1 tactical operator shuttle door gunner types was.
