I personally could never EDC a 5. A 3 is about as large as i want to carry.

The very bottom knife... The 6 .... Is that the "sharpened clip point" model?

Yes. Do not get the clip point unless you have other knives for serious outdoor use. It is a double edged knife. I have the clip point 6, but I also have the five. The 5 is a hardcore all around survival knife. If one is in the military, the 5 is the way to go because of its strength in prying. Likewise, it is part of my bug out gear. An example of the use would be in prying into or out of debris after a tornado. I went with the 6 clip point simply for the cool factor and not the utility. I will likely get another six.

It is possible, but it really depends on what you are doing. The 5 is a hardcore all around survival knife. If one is in the military, the 5 is the way to go because of its strength in prying. Likewise, it is part of my bug out gear. An example of the use would be in prying into or out of debris after a tornado.

I have an Izula and a 6 and the new Lazer Strike. I have not had a chance to get out and use the LS yet but my first impressions are that it is a great knife.

The situation is something like that. She and I have both been married previously. She has no children. I have a grown son. We both come from ultra religious and conservative backgrounds. We simply do not ever want to go through that again. Also, for us, it is less stressful. It is much easier for us to be more considerate and respectful of each other outside of legal marriage. Legal marriage in our society and the direction our society is going is simply overwhelming to me. She is more than a girlfriend. But, I can’t call her my wife either. She is my “life partner”. The company for which I work recognizes her as my “domestic partner”. Basically, by avoiding legal marriage, we have more control over our lives. The government and other people have less influence. It takes more effort and work, which is what we want.

There is one huge down side. Survivor’s benefits are only available to husbands and wives. Our view is that it should be like a bank account, an insurance policy, or any other assets. The money should go wherever the person that earned it so directs. At one time, I was hopeful that gays would change the laws regarding survivor’s benefit. However, they have chickened out and screwed up by joining the marriage game. In my view, I would like government out the marriage business and out of people’s private relationships. Frankly, I would prefer that government, especially the federal government keep its nose out of about 90+ percent of where it is today. I realize that is a very old fashioned view.

I hope that helps.

What is the powder coat on those? As durable as the standard black? Wouldn't it look like crap all scratched up?

Powdercoat seems pretty tough. It may look like hell when it gets beat up, but it'll look good for a while. Could always Duracoat it later if it gets beat up I guess.

Would the finish on an Eskabar be different from the Izula and other ESEE knives?

I didn't remove any strands. Just fused the ends cleanly and ran them down the sides.

It is a different finish. My room mate has an Eskabar and it's finish seems cheaper than the finish on my Izula.

Okay thanks, that's what I had assumed. I like my Eskabar for what it is anyway. I'll have to pick up one of the larger ESEE fixed-blades at some point though––you know, for bushcraft and survival, or something.

I wish the clip point knives were legal here. The -6 would make for a lot of blade.

Anyone else have one of the new LS Laser Strike models? I recently saw one at the store and grabbed it. It is some what different than most of the ESEE line.

I picked up a Laser Strike and a Candiru.

I've been on one day hike and cookout with the knife so far. It worked fine for chopping small sticks for kindling and preparing food. I haven't really put it to any hard work yet, as I carry an ESEE 4 clip point everyday at work. The sheath for the Laser Strike was OK, but I made a new one. I use stainless nylok nuts, since I ride a motorcycle to work most days and the vibration has loosened up regular chicago screws. Used Malice Clips to attach it to my CamelBak Mule.

I've used the Candiru nearly everyday. It is the perfect little companion blade for the ESEE 4. Itcomes with a sad, little nylon sheath. I made this neck sheath using a 20# break strength ball chain.

My Laser Strike has a very different look and feel when compared to my other ESEE knives. Good, but very different.

I haven't been able to manage buying a Candiru. It is just to small for me to be comfortable with it. Maybe sometime, but I am not digging it yet.
