Differences - no choil, modified handle, no jimping on spine, and I think the handle is a little longer.

What does the HM designate?  What are the differences between these and the originals?  I looked at the ESSE website and can't find anything.

Hey thanks!

Now that you've told me what to look for the differences are obvious.  I like them.

The Esee 4HM is my perfect blade. It is now my default go-to knife for hunting, camping and general woods bumming. The thing is perfection.

I just found it on amazon for almost the same price as the knife connection.  A few clicks later, its on the way to my house.

Spent a day and a half this past week in Sevierville TN, which happens to be the home of Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

Well one thing led to another and I picked up an Izula II to go with my -3 and -4.

Nice looking scales on the -6.  Info please?

Late response as I wanted to check with the guy before dropping his info.

The scales are from LMF Knives by Joe Snarski.  So far he is only on FB.  He is also pretty busy and has paused new business for the rest of July to catch up.  He is great to work with and I have no doubt that he probably could have had these done within a weekend if not for me going a little "custom" on him.

We went back and forth talking about materials; which he usually works in linen micarta(OD, Coyote, Multicam types).  I had a certain idea in mind. And basically went looking around and found what I felt would be ideal.  He took pictures of anything I had questions about and worked through ever step of the process.  As well as trying a few things out to see how this material handled.  I wasn't in any rush, so it was fun to just go back forth.  Which also shows that he is very understanding.  I first saw his work on a youtuber's video(Black Owl Outdoors: ESEE 4 Modifications).

Needless to say the palm swell fits the hands much better than the stock flat sided ESEE ones.  But with my material choice they lost a little bit of traction.  As they really need a bit of a polishing to get the right look.  If either of us had a checkering file I probably would have tried to add some checkering and then a final polish to get some grip back.  I might end up trying to do some slight file work myself if I feel it's necessary.

KBkvives on Ebay  ETA - You can contact him to order different colors as stated in the description.  He does some nice work.  I chatted with him about ideas to add a ferro rod holder, but decided that If I want one, I'll try to make one in kydex.

FYI Cabela's has Izulas for $45 and Iz2 for $67.  They weren't marked down in the store but they are online. Took an extra ten seconds for the cashier to make the override. Picked up another I1.

Think I'm going to add to the collection. Currently have an Avispa, Zancudo, Izula, and the 5.

I want to go with a 3 blank and TKC scales. Just can't decide on the sharpened Clip or the Standard blade.... What say y'all?

Also need to find a solid sheath for it.

The -3 with TKC scales is my favorite setup.

What are your local laws? We can't carry a dagger here. No clip point.

You can't baton with a clip. You might not do it with a -4 much, but a thought.

Even when cutting away from myself, I'm always wondering if somehow the sharpened back edge is going to come back at me.

Buy a kydex sheath.  I hate those molded plastic sheathes they come with now.

I use the plastic one when I front-pocket carry my Izula II, but that's about it.

I've been carrying in the side pocket of my carharts, the factory sheeth fits well and is easy

My wife uses my knives in the kitchen for food prep because all of my knives are sharper than our cheap kitchen knives. I bought her a pink Izula in hopes that she will carry/ use it. I need to show her some basic self defense with the knife and I hope she will carry it at work. If she does not use it then I will. I would even keep it pink lol. I don't think anybody would be "OMG Knife" if it's a a pink one!

He was asking about the new compact version of the scales, they do not have the extra material for your finger at the end of the handle like the normal ones do.

See here.

I'm curious myself how they feel. I'm very happy with my normal ones though so the compact ones don't have much draw for me, but I do like to have options so I'm glad to see them available.

I'm torn on which ESEE I should own first - A 3 or a 4.

I have a gerber lmf 2. Handy around camp, but I rarely lug it around.

I also have a Sog Seal Pup, but don't care for it too much. Its usually affixed to a bag.

I have a variety of Kershaws - blurs, avalanches, etc.

I usually have a firearm @ 4 0'clock.

I desire a do-all fixed blade that I can carry horizontally on the belt.

Camp/ranch duty, occasional field dressing.

Help me decide and recommend a sheath as well.

Go with a 3.  It's about as big as I'd want to carry horizontally.  I can't imagine many "real world*" knife tasks a 3 can't do.  At times you might be wishing for the extra bit of blade on a 4, but I think the tradeoff for carrying is worth it.

Google AZWelke or Grizzly Outdoors for some good kydex sheath options.

*if your definition of "real world" is "batoning my knife through old telephone poles, then you'll need a bigger knife

I just grabbed a TOPS BOB and I'm tickled with it. The sheath rotates on the belt clip so I wore it horizontally on the front of my belt so it wouldn't interfere with my CCW. I know I know, it's not an ESEE but damn do I like this knife.

So I just bought an Esee 6 in dark earth which comes with canvas micarta scales. So far so good.
However, it comes with a black sheath and clip? Putting aside that a plastic sheath sucks vs the Kydex they offer on a the 4, 5 and Junglas.
Why the F'ck not sell it with coyote brown sheath and clip when the make a coyote brown s heath and clip? Also, if you buy it with the regular black blade you get the sheath in coyote brown!!! Finally, you can get it in the horrific and overdone zombie / venom green but not in OD? Seriously, Esee love the knives but WTF?

Aero above referred me to Azwelke. A variety of colors are available.
A response to my email question was answered promptly.
Although the site states 14 days to turn around, mine was in the mail within a week.
I don't have it yet, but the vendor enjoys a good reputation.

Aero above referred me to Azwelke. A variety of colors are available.
A response to my email question was answered promptly.
Although the site states 14 days to turn around, mine was in the mail within a week.
I don't have it yet, but the vendor enjoys a good reputation.

3hm and AZWelke are as advertised. Quite nice.

The knife is flawless. It feels very small, but I think I'm just accustomed to big fixed blades. After lugging around an LMF 2, I barely notice the knife on my belt.

The hm grip is indeed different. I haven't worked with the knife yet, so I can't really weigh in on the matter. I suspect it will be great for detail stuff and skinning.

The sheath is mounted horizontally on the belt. Tec-Lock ftw.  I opted for the pancake style. "More" knife might be awkward horizontally...at least up front.

I had hoped for a slight upward angle, but couldn't make it work.

Time to refresh myself on making lanyards. I'll try to get a couple pics, but I'm sure there are a number of pairings of my set already posted.

I have a 4 coming in the mail. Should be here Thursday. I may consider trying to trade it for a 5 since I already have a 3.

Any day a dropped knife doesn't end up in your gut, leg, or foot, is a pretty good day... Unless you really want to try out your new tourniquet on your leg.
