I'm gonna repost this again, more as a warning because I don't suggest that you ever do it.
So anyway, we were out shooting in the desert and one of the guys breaks out some spotter tracer rounds. These were reloads that he had loaded up himself.
He let one go and man I had never heard a muzzle brake on a .50 ring before. For that matter I had never seen an ST round shoot flat either. I thought it might have been a fluke thing until he pulled the trigger on another!
I stopped him and asked what he had loaded them with and how many grains. He said "235 grs of 5010"! Myself and MrBen took a few extra steps back away from him. Don't get me wrong, ST's shooting flat looks absolutely awesome! But it's not safe, as noted they're a low velocity round.
I've always been told that 170-195 grs of powder is the best way to stay safe. Don't forget that the projos weigh 800+ grs which is going to cause a pressure spike. It's not worth chancing a possible KB in your face and possibly putting a permanent X on your medical records.
If you do load some up and use 170 grs of powder, you'll probably need a case filler to fill the extra space. If you don't you could risk getting flash over and a round blowing up in the chamber. Use some cotton balls or some cream of wheat or.... If you use cream of wheat, warn people shooting next to you to get up and move until you're done. Those little pieces coming out at 2600+ fps hurt when they hit you!
Be safe guys and have fun if you shoot these.
