i am purchasing a AR-50 and need a scope that can hold up to the punishment.  My budget for now is $500-750.  Does anyone have experience or thoughts on some scopes?

I put a 20X SS SWFA scope on mine. Lifetime warranty and good glass. $299 for the regular or a bit more for the HD version. If your rifle is more of a fun gun than precision, can't beat the SWFA.

AR50's don't seem to eat glass like some of the lighter 50's so you can get away cheap.  I'm assuming it's because the AR50 is a heavy bolt rifle with little recoil.  I have Burris Black Diamond on mine and you can find them on GB from time to time in the high end of your budget.  A sponser here, SWFA, sells the Super Sniper for about $300 but they are single power optics.  I know some guys are using Bushnell Elite as well.

I've got an SWFA fixed power on my AR50 and it does the job.  My range only goes out to 600yds and I don't shoot it very often so I didn't see the need to spend top dollar on glass for it.

My first 50 had an OLD Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20.  Nice scope, nice glass, limited travel - but the best warranty in the industry.  You can find them for ~$400-450.  I then upgraded to a Nightforce 5.5-22x56, IMO this is the perfect scope for a 50.  Money then got tight and I downgraded to a SS 20x.  It works, but its not as nice as the NF.
So, it depends on your budget:
$200-300 SWFA SS, 6x, 10x, 16, or 20x; or Bushnell Elite 10x
$700 Sightron SIII mil/mil or moa/moa
$1400 NF 5.5-22 or 8-32
$2500 Kahles, USO, S&B etc

I use a Konus Pro M30 series on my 50 pretty good luck so far and even if something happens it has a lifetime warranty.

Millett LRS-1 has held up well for me.  No worries after a few thousand rounds.

I have a 10x SS in mine.  Had a 16x but it was to strong for the terrain and distances I was shooting.  Never much over 600 yds.  They are great scopes for the price.

SS 10x on my M82, hundreds of rounds fired with no problems.
