I think I need to cast zinc bullets for the 50 for an upcoming event.
(I need the projectile to not tear up targets like a steel core or bronze will)

I've heard it has been done before but I can't find who it was.

Thanks for any assistance!

(Looking to use zinc alloy #2. "Zamak 2")

You need to get over to the cast boolits forum.  Zinc casting has been done, but seems to be a wee bit hard on aluminum molds.  IIRC, there is also some dimensional issues since most molds are made to drop boolits of a certain diameter given lead alloys.

I did poke around over at that forum...

Zinc seems hard on aluminum molds,
and seems to scavenge the iron out of steel melt pots too.

I was thinking of making my own mold from titanium (I've got 2300Lbs of it)
which shouldn't try to alloy with the molten Zinc
and should be durable enough.

...but then I found a projectile manufacturer who make frangibles that may serve my purpose better.

A sample of them is inbound.  :)

I'll let y'all know what I'm up to once it looks like the plan is coming together...

Thank you for the reply.

CTX brand manufactured by the folks at tomboboutdoors.com
Tell them the guy doing the Zombie Biathalon sent you their way...

I will be evaluating them here shortly and will give a report on performance.

How are those constructed?  Sintered, cast, swaged?  I can't wait to see the range report on them.

Frangibles have been made in the past by using a 7mm Rem Mag casing cut down on length, filled with #9 shot, and swaged closed to hold the shot inside. Then the belt is turned to 0.5105" diameter.

I have a few left over from a sample lot I received from a FCSA member on the East Coast.

Performance on soft targets are explosive.
