THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
A friend of mine has built the below pictured action and is wondering about stock mounting options without going the bullpup route. He specifically wants to know where to put the bolts in the action and is concerned about having enough to make sure it doesn't go anywhere in whatever stock he decides to use. He has thought about using a "recoil lug" on the front and drilling and tapping it for bolts but isn't sure what to do on the rear.

Double recoil lugs? One front and one rear might work... Would need to be bedded solidly though or it would beat a stock to pieces.

I agree that you need a recoil lug at least in the front. I have a shell holder action and it has a big recoil lug in the front that rests in a cut out in the stock with 2 mounting bolts.

I'll mention the double recoil lug idea.

competitor, so you just have a single front lug with two bolts holding the action in and that is all? What kind of stock are you using?

To get double lugs to work, the stock bedding would have to be superb.... A front lug with a bolt (Ala AR50) should be plenty strong if done properly.

There is a single lug at the front of the action with a bolt through it and a bolt behind the trigger. I use State Arms stocks.
