So Im finally getting an optic for my SCAR 17.  Id kind of prefer a variable magnification scope, but I cant seem to find one I like within a reasonable price range that I would like to put on the gun... so I landed on the ACOG.

Im trying to decide between the TA11 and the TA110.

I like the idea of not having to worry about batteries, but I also really like the idea of being able to adjust the brightness myself... I dont like the idea of the reticle being blown out by too much light being taken in.  Id rather not screw around with tape and all that.  Also, buying AAs isnt all that big of a deal...

But I think I read somewhere that the green reticle doesnt get blown out like the red does in bright light.  Is that true?  As much as Id prefer a red reticle, I think if I could go sans battery and not have to worry about the reticle getting blown out, Id probably consider going that way.

Anyone with experience with these optics have any input that might help?

I have a TA11H-308.  Awesome optic and perfect for the Scar 17s.  It's bright but not overly bright at all for me so I don't use tape or anything to dim it down.

I've got a TA-11E on mine (the red chevron model) and it's wonderful. I think the only thing I'd rather have on there is a VCOG.

Ta11e-g here. Love mine. I don't think it's too bright in the middle of a sunny day. If I bought one today I might get the led one because like you said replacing AA batteries isn't such a big deal.

The TA11E is what Im looking at going with if I dont go with LED.
The VCOG is ideally the kind of thing I would want though, but I dont know if Im ready to throw down that kind of money yet.  I have a hard enough time getting myself to spend what an ACOG costs.

Yeah, the sensible part of my brain is in conflict with the "WHAT IF THE WORLD ENDED TOMORROW!?" part of my brain so I keep going back and forth between fiber and LED.  I can buy a pile of AAs and they should last as long as the optic, the biggest concern I would have with the LED version is the battery contacts breaking or something.  Doesnt seem very likely though.

In the end, it seems like the fiber optic versions have more going "against" them than the LED one.

Or maybe Im over thinking it.

This thread sucks without obligatory SCAR W/ ACOG porn. TA11 Red chevron, I use electrical tape and peel it back to adjust my illumination. On very sunny days when I'm trying to do precise shooting I find the max illumination a bit too bright.

I have the TA11E on mine. It has worked great for me since I bought my 17 years ago.

I used a TA31 RCO on mine for a while. The BDC match up to M80 prvi pretty well.

So I think I just decided on going with the Accupower 1-8x instead of an ACOG.
It seems like what Im looking for and its priced within my limit of what Id be willing to spend.

It can come in Red or Green.  I have the TA11-H-308 in Red.  I prefer the red as well.

after the nuclear holocost, the only thing surving will be roaches and ACOGs.

when working up loads, the reticle may bloom more than I like, and find when the fiber is covered, the resolution is finer.  I used to use black tape, but now my TA11s sport a custom, cut to fit inner tube from a bicycle.  it's snugger than a wetsuit, and if I want more illumination, I peel it back some.  looks sexy, and still going strong after several years.  plus, I get points from McGuyver

I've had the TA-01 Fiber optic model and borrowed/shot my friend's TA02 LED.   The LED Acog is the model to get, and I would get the 3.5x LED.  You won't always want the illumination on and sometimes it won't be there when you want it with the fiber optic model.  A good example is when under cover or in a dark area shooting into the light, you won't have illumination.  The LED model lets you control the exact amount of illumination ALL THE TIME.  Having total control...PRICELESS.

The only down side guys will argue is that it's battery dependent.  We'll so are almost all other red dots and scopes with illumination.  The up side is the reticle is etched and will still be there even without the battery. (At least for daylight shooting).

My next ACOG is going to be the 3.5x LED with a RMR piggyback.

Yeah, I can understand why its nice not having to worry about having batteries, but at the same time AA batteries are hardly expensive... or hard to come by.  Also, the battery life is something like 12,000 hours.  That means youd have to change a battery around every couple years.

I ended up changing my mind and going with a scope, but before I did that I had pretty much landed on getting the LED version.
Even though I changed my mind I kept the ACOG on my list.  I think Ill still end up grabbing one.

What scope did you end up with? I'm in a tough debate between NF NXS 2.5-10x32, TA11 ACOG, or Razor HD II 1-6. Seem's to be pro's and con's to all 3.

Well, I went from ACOG to the Trijicon Accupower 1-8.  But then I went from that to the Primary Arms Platinum 1-8.
I handled another Primary Arms scope and I REALLY liked the ACSS reticle... so I ordered one.  I dont think Ill be getting it for a while though.

I feel like itll either work out great, or worse case scenario, I take it off the SCAR and put it on something else, and continue to look for a SCAR optic.
At that point, Id probably go back to the Accupower 1-8... or maybe even ACOG  TA110.  Id rather not have fixed power though.

I have a PA Platinum 1-8 on my AR it work's really well. Never even crossed my mind for the Scar though. You'll end up liking it as long as the Scar doesn't eat it up.

I currently have a leupold mark 8 1-8x cqbss w/h27D on my gun.  It's a love hate relationship with that scope.  I love that it can do everything from cqb to long range shooting, but hate the weight.   I'm debating keeping that optic or going with a lightweight ACOG LED w/RMR.  I already have a precision .308 rifle.  I also think that it defeats the purpose of the gun being light weight.  I'm on the fence.

I looked into the combo a little bit.  I walked away feeling like it should be fine.  Basically everything boiled down to making sure its put in a good mount.
If something goes wrong Ill happily move it to my AR and find something else for the SCAR.

I just think of lightweight guns as being good for adding stuff to them and becoming "normal" weight guns haha.

True, but I wanted to keep the SCAR 17 as light as possible, it's one of the main benefits of the gun.
