THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Seems that most guys are intimadated by the takedown- yes, harder than an AK or even a M1A, but not that bad. It has eaten everything I have fed it too- including some just neck sized rounds that I had reloaded for a couple of bolt guns. It seems like prices are down from a couple years ago- got mine used with 6- 20 rd. mags. for $1K & don't see ever letting it go! If I was back to belly crawling in VN for several weeks, yes, my M1A would make more sense, but as a designated Marksman in an urban environment, I'd take the FN AR... |

I think some guys were perturbed by the dramatic price erosion on the FNAR after release.

I think generally speaking it's just "cool looking" enough, which hurts its general popularity.
Generally speaking, even in the LE and civilian markets, the trend is towards "military looking" weapons, not traditionally inspired designs, and even military bolt guns are reaching at a different design aesthetic with lightening cuts, adjustable LOP and adjustable combs, machined metal, rails and rivets, you know "the look." Also, .308 / 7.62x51 has been falling out of favor as a "sniper" round - it's now most popular in a battle rifle / "designated marksman" role (an important mission, to be sure, but for all intents and purposes - a glorified rifleman). I don't have a lot of extensive experience with the FNAR, but when I've fired them I've never had any bad opinions about it, it's just not "of this time" and consequently not as popular, at least not on the internets where the latest and greatest "tactical" equipment gets the buzz. ~Augee |

I LOVE my FN AR. I get sub MOA. I haven't been able to shoot her past 200 yards, but so far she is a tack driver. It outshot my friend's M1A EBR the day I got it (out of the box!)
20in Heavy Fluted Barrel FNAR 4-16X50 Scope with sun shade. Harris bipod (3) 20 rd mags (1) 5rd mag Total spent= $1000 on gun and mags +$300 on the scope best $1300 I spent ![]() |

I suspect a simple redesign of the stock of the FNAR to give it more "sex appeal" and less of a "pistol grip screwed onto an SKS buttstock" appearance would probably do wonders for the sales of it.

Whats the money like on that one? |

I didn't realize they came sans pistol grip. weird thing is the stock photo above is $979.00 and they are selling the "current" one like I have for several hundred more!!! NOTE: The "pistol grip" version can be had elsewhere at local shows or even shops for 950-1050 In my opinion: FNAR PROS: Accuracy, sub MOA at 100yds so far Reliability, I have shot 150 gr 168gr and even that east German surplus (crap) without a single FTE or FTF Stock rail system (perfect for my scope and bipod setups Price compared to STOCK AR10 or M1A FNAR CONS: Magazine price (mine came with 4 mags, but most only get one or two, and additional 20rd mags are >$45!!! Cleaning, certainly a pain to clean over comprable weapons systems Lack of popularity (upgrades?, only a 16in and 20in heavy barrel model are available in only standard black) |

I am toying around with getting one of these, but the stock does look a little funky.
A friend of mine bought one for $1495 when they 1st came out. Same shop sells them for $995 now brand new. I found a source for new mags at $38 ea which is high, but reasonable compared to M1A mags. I worry that it will be discontinued and parts/mags will dry up soon. It shoots great though ~ |

I had one, liked it, but just didn't love it. Cleaning, expensive mags & lack of aftermarket parts to customize it to fit me was its downfall. I do kinda miss it, it shot well and almost no recoil, but I had to let it go...

Okay, you folks getting sub MOA, what are you doing?
Bipod or rest? I'm shooting bipod and rest, 168s and 175s and its hopping around like a cuban shortstop. No consistancy, some good groups and some not, but none especially memorable. This is with handloads and Federal GMM. I called FN and they said to clean it. Hmm, hadn't thought of that. ![]() |

Tex,
I shoot off a bipod (forward load it), but it is a hard gun to shoot sub-moa (it WILL do it), you have to hold very hard.. I did put a PWS-prc brake on mine to be able to re-aquire & see a target at about 600 on out shoud the first round be a miss- it barely moves now.... FGGM 168s went 3/4", but my handloads generally will do 1/2 that. I REALLY like the rifle & think that it needs 5-10 rds. through a clean bore to settle in to it's best accuracy- so I tend to not clean it until I put 200+ through it.. |

Change the looks so that it looks exactly like a small WW2 B.A.R.. I'd buy one!

They had a straight stock "sniper" version that looked interesting but I think it was canceled.

I have an FNAR heavy it is a great rifle 1 moa - 1.5 moa and I am not that good a shot. lots of rail space
FNARs are niche weapons but make great sporting hunting target and 6-700 meter sniper guns. |

Well, mine has surprised me once again.
I took it out yesterday and actually got decent groups. It's starting to shoot better the more rounds it gets through it. About 1.5 MoA, the best it's done. |

Go watch the video on Youtube where the FN rep takes one apart to clean it - it may help you decide.

I ponder one, but an AR type gives much more flexibility.....& after shooting an Armalite AR-10 w/ ACOG, it shot smooth as my MP5/40 so I was sold.
Rapid fire American Eagle & keep target in ACOG was childs play |
