I really like 3 things about the SCAR 17, and I really don't like several things.
Likes: 1. Weight, everyone will praise the rifle for being the lightest .308 MBR out there, and it feels pretty good in balance 2. Ergonomics and adjustments, the folding/retracting stock is great, the ambi safety is good, ability for ambi cocking handle placement 3. Recoil control, the gun has a bad ass break on it that obviously helps, but for a 16" .308 it is pretty mild-but loud Dislikes: 1. Lack of magazines-I have waited over a year-still no mags. 2. Price-they are several hundred more than the SCAR16 and not worth it in my opinion 3. Shitty trigger. I am spending $300 for a new drop in from Timney if they ever ship it. Accuracy is ok, not fantastic, I am trying to remedy this. 4. Crappy cardboard box and one mag. and no disassembly tool-cheap ass FN for a $3K rifle, just plain cheap ass. I got a nice fitted assault rifle case and 2 mags and a sling and nice cleaning kit with my $1,600 AUG A3-at damn near half the price, and its gots lots of plastic on it I think if it was a $2K rifle and came with 2 mags I would like it better |

No comparable rifle exists at this point in time. Not even close.

People were paying up to a $150 for used Glock 21 mags 17 years ago when they listed for $15
SR25 mags are $129 list, $70 for used ones, if you can find them. Bought gas at $1.39 in Nov 2009 and just paid $3.59. It is what it is. I've been fortunate to own some excellent firearms over my lifetime and I consider this rifle to be one of the best so I pay for mags and cut back on something I really don't need!![]() |

Mag's are just gonna get more expensive as this election year goes on.
Some dealer's have been selling FN mag's for $65.00-80.00 dollars and there getting what they ask for. Those ban price's I remember clearly. Beta C mag's $650.00 - $800.00 Sig 226 $100-125.00 AR15 GI mag's $33.00-$40.00 on average I get the shiver's just thinking about those price's again. Just be persistant if a dealer is taking order's at a low price signup for a e-mail when they get them in or just Give the FN e-store your CC# and wait for a couple to get shipped out and hope there is no price change. |

I just picked up my scar 17 and would do it all over. Mag situation sucks, but they supposedly just received a large shipment and orders have been going out. I picked up 5 mags for $50. They can be found if you look hard enough. The scar is ridiculously soft in recoil, especially of you are standing shooting unsupported. That cardboard box is awful. Leaves cardboard fibers all over your new gun. FNH should at least put it in one of those cheap plastic ones so you don't have to go to the range with your huge square cardboard box
.
I set mine up for a dmr rifle with a gg&g bipod, lt104, and nightforce 2.5-10 and it rocks. With everything I will bet it still comes in under 11lbs. I strongly recommend the rifle as any minor drawback is heavily outweighed by the awesomeness you experience when it goes boom. |

I wanna get some stuff for mine before it show's up and rail cover's are on the list. Soft recol huh? Cant wait ( few more day's ) So far I managed to fanagle 6 extra mag's in less then a week so I'll be at seven and still looking. Definetly want a forward grip (thinking grip pod) and a light for things that go bump in the night and a sling (wanna attach it to the front rail and buttstock loop) scope come's later after my ammo hoarding. |

The torque wrench? If they included a nice torque wrench the gun would cost even MORE. If they include a cheap one people would complain about having to pay for a shitty torque wrench. They can't win either way on this. Best to not include the tools to keep costs lower for us. |

Which night vision system are you using? I'm looking for something to install on .308 rifles (I have a SCAR too) and have read the PVS-14's aren't built to endure the 30 cal guns. |

I was talking about the tool to get the gas piston out, and yes a nice little torque wrench wouldn't break the bank either, they already charge $300 more for the 17, and its not that different from the 16.

And no matter what price the mags are they are they are not in stock.
For over a year. $40 or $140 doesn't matter. |

Got my 17 recently and must say it is everything I heard and then some.
1. Weight- lighter than many 5.56's on the market. 2. Ergonomics- Damn good feel, controls well placed and easy to use, stock can be adjusted to fit almost anyone. 3. Accuracy- Mine will shoot 5 of almost any load I have tried into 1.25" IE: Federal 150 Ballistic Tip, Yugo, German or Port surplus and tossed together practice reloads. Federal Gold Medal match shoots 3/4" for 5. Who could ask for more? 4. Recoil- Very soft shooting for a .308 let alone one this light. Hammers at closer ranges are easy! I see a few complaints about the trigger. Mines a 2 stage affair and while not wonderful it allows a clean enough break, once learned, to easily make headshots offhand 80-100 yards. |
