THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
... who did you use to do the barrel chop? And did they also replace the gas port/alter the gas port?

I am rapidly approaching being "in the market" to have my 16" SCAR 16s barrel cut down to 10.5". Want to go 10.5" for suppressor warranty length. Kind of want 11.5".

So... I've seen several of you with SBR SCARs in the picture thread... who did your barrel work?

Its not the guy that walks in with a gun and says he is going to start shooting that you have to worry about.
Its the guy that just walks in and just starts shooting.

Thanks for that link.

I read through it and just dropped Marvin an IM.

I was looking at Hi Desert Dog but everywhere I go I see very nasty things about them that unsettle me.

When I was going to do mine I had planned to go through Marvin.

That thread is full of good information.

+1 for Marvin

Just sent my barrel in for a 14" chop outstanding work.

He charges $150.00 shipped to cut-down re-thread and re-crown a SCAR Barrel

If you want him to permanently attach your muzzle device for a legal 16" barrel that will run you $45.00

I used ADCO. I just called them and asked them what it would cost for a barrel chop and to add a shoulder on it so it's belled out at the muzzle like it would be on the 16 inch. I think I paid 120$ and it took a week and a half from shipping to receiving. I just ordered a new gas port nut or whatever it's called. That was 7.50

Marvin did my 10.5 chop. He will install your muzzle device at no additional charge. Since I am going to replace the gas screw, he just removed the existing one so I can install my own. Also, he parkarized the threads for $25.

He took about five weeks to complete the work.

Got my barrel back from Marvin today. Looks really nice. Checked the mount with my can doing the old "look down the barrel" test and it looks perfectly concentric.

Question for the other SCAR SBR folks: What gas port screw size are you guys running with your 10.5" barrels that give a good reliable standard/suppressed function?

I'm counting days until I get my barrel back from Marvin, so know what size gas port most of you guys are using with a 10.5in barrel is relevant to me too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Directly from Browning parts department, call their phone line and they will hook you up.

HiDesertDog also sells his own versions but his use hex wrenches and seem to be odd sizes. For instance he doesn't have a comparable part for the 190, his sizes go from 180 to 195.

You want to purchase a few. Based on what others have said, I bought part numbers 190, 200 and 210 (these are the last three digits of the gas screw part#). They cost about $5 each. You want to try different screw sizes with both the suppressor setting on and off. If your gun will cycle in the suppressor setting without a suppressor, you're using too large a screw. For mine, the #200 worked well in the regular setting. I haven't tried it in the suppressed setting yet as I didn't know I had to test it in that setting. Going to test it again at the range trip.

I received this from Marvin yesterday.

Don't think you could find anyone much better to convert a SCAR barrel.

I've got my selection of gas screws and will hit the range tomorrow to test out my barrel. From all the sources I've been reading it looks like either the 190 or the 200 will be the sweet spot.

Another question:

I was running a TA31 on my SCAR when it was a 16" carbine but now that it is a 10.5" SBR the TA31 feels like overkill... what kind of optics are the SCAR SBR folks running?

It may feel like overkill but you'll still schwack targets out far even with the short barrel. give it a try.

I run an Aimpoint on my 10" SCAR. And for the previous poster, you can just send your barrel to Marvin. The SCAR barrel was designed to be removed in the field. You just need a screw driver with the right size torx bit to remove and a torque wrench with the same torx bit to install. Bought both the wrench and the bit from Sears for $50 or so.
