Anyway you can video your test run?
I'm sure a local ARFCOMer will be happy to help if you don't have a camera available. |

There will be a video for sure, most likely at my club's next Class 3 shooting event. 300 Blackout is pricy these days so I'm saving it for full-auto fun.

Here is a short video of the test fire. Don't mind my poor editing skills. The 300 Blackout barrel was made by a fellow AR15.com member who is building his own rifle as well. It took a little while to get the balance in the gas system correct but once I had that figured out, it ran just fine. The gas port is far bigger than any AR15 I own. We will see how it does full-auto this Sat. if the weather is good. If it is crappy I will hold off till next month's Class 3 shoot. Now all I need to finish it off is another suppressor.

Soon as my semi is delivered I have a 6.5 Grendel barrel to test with the 7.62x39 conversion parts. Had to bore out a bolt and reshape the extractor, but that was pretty simple. I've also done some 5.45 x 39 for MGA and another customer that worked out well. Had to bore out the bolt, but extractor didn't care, have to resize the links and massage the feed tray a little too.
Also have a guy asking for a MK48 barrel in 260 Rem, which would just rock your socks off if you could afford to feed it. Be as simple as a barrel and ammo change, rest of the parts wouldn't know the difference. Lotta possibilities with this platform and really pretty simple as far as the caliber change parts. |

I always thought the Mk48 or M240H in 6.5 creedmoor would be awesome. ( I am a Blackhawks crew chief, hence the "H")
Or a M249 or M16 in 220 thunderbolt. A 6mm Hagar necked to .22. I often wish these two cartridges were the standard in our system. My .220 will shoot 77's at 3100FPs in a 20 in barrel. And btw you do absolutely win the look what I built comp... It's incredible. |

Yeah, Creedmoor was my first thought and 260 is essentially the same thing so either one would be cool to try. Not familiar with the other one though.
I am really excited about 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39 off the RPD belt. |

I also made a M249 barrel in 6.8, but with the MK48 profile, which makes it a super heavy profile. Also gave it two more inches for a total of 18" and 5/8 threads like a sane person. This barrel will be targeted towards mounted use, heavy but able to take a lot of sustained fire with good velocity. The coolest barrel is the para-length one I made with KAC style dimples. There are 261 of them for a total of 205" of linear edge distance and 11 inches squared of addition surface area. Between the bore increase and dimples, it is .225 lbs lighter than a factory para barrel. Next step is to start NiB plating extensions/bolts/feed trays/and maybe feed pawls...... http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto5_zps63ddc896.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto6_zps785b84a6.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto4_zps72176a41.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto3_zpsec384a6a.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto2_zpsbd4d8474.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/sharkyforty7/proto1_zps2aa9f422.jpg View Quote Bravo, my good man. I ran six 25rnd mags through my 10.5" shorty with RDIAS, and it ran without a hitch. Now I just need much more to come in so I can afford to go back to blasting. A 6.5 Grendel beltfed would completely rock! ETA: Your 6.8 barrels look badass as well. |

Thanks guys, have some more cool barrels in the works right now....
Once you have the simple but custom tools to deal with the gas block and extension, it's super easy barrel to make really, just a really niche item. Oh and guys, I am looking for any shot out or demilled barrels in any configuration for the M249 and MK48 platforms for donor parts. Don't care at all what condition as long as the extension and gas block are intact. Also looking for any and all MK48 parts in general. You would be shocked at how difficult these parts are to find even for the guys that use them professionally. The demo went well yesterday, all the guns ran great in all calibers, 6.8 links need a little adjustment but for gen1 prototypes they worked very well. Don't know about my gun but they just finished and tested new welding fixtures that are supposed to cut manufacturing time quite a bit. |

Cool, once I finish the projects I have on the board now(M203, metal spinning ammo components, FA op system for the M249 and my AT4 9mm) I will hit you up for a 7.62x39 barrel. So much fun stuff, so little time. Did they have to change the topcover and feed tray too?

If I can get my hands on a set of prints I have 2 cnc 4-axis mills and 2 cnc lathes at my disposal.
So far this has been almost impossible. i'd be happy to machine some parts at cost of material and shipping for some hard to find parts. Let me know how much you want for a copy of those prints, if you don't mind. Id return a set of digital dwg. files dimed in autocad or solidworks prt. files if interested. Those barrels are all Dan's hard work. I see this opening up a whole new world of opportunity for the old M249
PM sent. Also and update on parts suppliers. I can no longer recommend Eric Grimes at Great Machine or Great Racing as a reliable supplier of M249 parts related to the receiver or operating group. I also have to caution members on using any of his affiliates at High Power Armory due to a very bad experience with parts purchased last year. I can still recommend the folks over at US Machine gun armory and their line of M249/Mk46 it has been my personal experience that they make a far superior product and stand behind it with excellent customer service. |

I have been getting a lot of requests for plans or assistance building the M249 so I will be working on a receiver assembly and welding jig after I have finished my M-60 project. It will most likely include a set of receiver assembly plans and any reference drawings and corrections from the QA. Interested parities can pm me, serious builders only please as these projects are not for those with a small build budget. Check page 1 for how much mine ended up costing.

Regarding the trigger pack, is the redesigned closed-bolt system able to use AR FCGs? That's sort of what it sounded like. If yes, would either of the binary/Echo triggers be compatible, or is this a case of wishful thinking?
